In early November, the Albany County legislature voted 24-12 to forbid the use of styrofoam containers by county businesses with more than 15 locations nationally and at least one locally. Yesterday, it was signed into law.

Meanwhile that Idiot Andrew Cuomo is spending millions of our tax dollars to tell other states to locate their business in NY State! As if ! oh wait there’s a catch… depends on where you relocate and after 5 years you are screwewd.

Styrofoam also uses half the energy and far less water to manufacture then paper. But don’t confuse a Lefty with facts. It’s about his Religion and how Righteous it makes him FEEL....

In my opinon the problem with the public's view of government today is that there's no appreciation for scale. Strong local and responsive government is fine for small communities and even necessary. A strong distant government that thinks it knows best for all is dangerous.

A fair point but keep it local. It’s clearly designed to restrict McDonalds, Dunkin’ Donuts, Burger King etc. What business is it of Albany if a local business also has operations in Hartford, Pittsburgh, Dubuque, San Antonio or Stockton?
At least there's some good news here.
This ordinance will probably be overturned when it is discovered it can’t pass constitutional muster. Laws have to apply equally. They can’t pick and choose who gets to use certain containers.
Now, instead of there being less foam containers there will be much larger legal bills. The restaurants with more than 14 nationwide locations have lots more lawyers, time, and money than do the taxpayers.
They would be further ahead to spend the money developing cardboard or paper containers that keep food as warm as foam - then license the patent and relieve the taxpayers of the burden of the coming lawsuits.

The ironic thing is that a decade or more ago an archeological “dig” was done at a landfill. Styrofoam fast food containers were almost inconsequential. The most obvious strata was phone books. They could be used like tree rings to determine the age of the layer. New books issued by the phone company - old books into the trash.
In reality, Styrofoam fast food packaging is a non-issue.
New York State will suffer an immediate economic hit.................. Nothing new, that’s all that has been occurring in upstate NYS since 2000, many of the towns that had factories, now have empty buildings. They are slowly closing one after another just like Michigan. As factories close, skilled workers can’t train others, i.e. a steel worker who no longer has a job, can’t train an understudy for it, as most factories did over the years of operation. Our economy is totally screwed up, is it any wonder why there are so many unemployed. Like Cuomo can cure NYS’s ills? Lots a luck with that. I foresee the state going bankrupt in the near future continuing the way it has. NYS is no longer an Industry friendly environment.
