Naughty is nice as SantaCon invades S.F.

Santa Claus came early to San Francisco this year, but he forgot his long pants.

As did quite a few of the hundreds of other Santas, and several of their helpers, who gathered by the Christmas tree in Union Square on Saturday.

The Santas were kicking off the start of this year's SantaCon, a worldwide event that features a daylong bar crawl that sends many of its participants to the naughty list.

The jingling bells, holiday-colored sequins, mistletoe and fake, cottony beards met in Union Square before heading off to the bars in various other neighborhoods throughout the city. Many of the Santas brought with them toy donations for San Francisco Fire Department's toy program, even as they mugged for photos, sipped beer, smoked joints and led the crowd in chants of "Ho, ho, ho!"

"You can just feel that everyone is having a good time," said 47-year-old Emily Salmon-Pezely, a first-time Santa. "It's just silly and enjoyable."

Santas continuously poured into the streets in what SantaCon participants called "the red tide," flowing out of BART stations, creating lines to get into nearby bars, and jamming into liquor stores. Dotting the sea of red-and-white felt hats were people dressed as Santa's lady helpers, elves, angels, penguins and gingerbread men.

LOL...”lead by its sex organ”...when one considers that the orifice responsible for solid excretion is their distinguishing sex organ, that phrase takes on new meaning!

Seriously, though. This is sad. It is so repellent. To liberals and their ilk (especially those in SF) everything must be ridiculed and torn down.

It is the only way they can feel good about themselves.

Actually, I don’t think they’re gay in particular, just a bunch of drunks having a good time.

Santa Con sometimes used to meet in Greenwich Village in NYC, and as far as I could see the main idea was to party hard.

I didn’t see it around here last year.

BTW whenever I see a whole bunch of (provocatively) “dressed up” people on public transit (read: BART) I know they’re headed off to some parade/festival in San Francisco.

This is so sad, makes me want to weep. I have fond memories of Christmas time in the city. Union Square was magical. Mom would let us skip school and she /we would go to the city for lunch and an afternoon of shopping at I Magnins, the City of Paris, the gigantic Christmas tree was always a wonder, lunch was at Blums with the last shopping place at Gumps. Those were the golden days of SF IMHO.

Wasn’t the City of Paris the place in those days that had the blue bags with the extremely-detailed line drawings of Paris on them? I remember being fascinated by those.

Evidently this year it starts in Tompkins Square in the East Village, then goes downtown and into Brooklyn.

Why do they make a big deal of Christmas? Because they have to attempt to hijack it and make it their own so they won’t have to face what Christmas really means.

“For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.”
John 3:20

Pray for these people.

Yep. Plenty of good bars around that part of town. And Union Square used to be a hangout for pot sellers and protestors. I saw some of the Santas a few times when I was working down there, but not in the after hours when they were really drunk.
