My nomination for the dumbest comment of the week by a television host on a news channel goes to CNN's Brian Stelter.
While talking to Slate's Aisha Harris about the reaction to her article calling for Santa Claus to be a penguin, the new Reliable Sources host wondered if Megyn Kelly wouldn't have been so adamant about Santa being white if Fox News had more black viewers (video follows with transcript and commentary):
BRIAN STELTER: You know, to tell you what I think for a minute, I kind of wonder if FOX had a different audience demographic, if she would have commented differently about Santa. You know, data from 2012 shows that about 1.4 percent of FOX's prime time audience is African- American. If that was 24 percent, I'm wondering if she would have said something differently. But, of course, that's not something we can know.
So Kelly's opinions might be determined by the racial makeup of her audience? Does Stelter think that's the way all hosts on news channels behave, or just those on Fox?
Regardless of the answer, this whole episode is just another example of how all those media proclamations that racism would end if we elected a black president were utter nonsense.
Would there have even been a reaction to Kelly's segment last week if the current White House resident wasn't an African-American?
If the answer is "No," that means there's more racial sensitivity today than there was before Barack Obama was elected.
Sadly, people in the media always quick to play the race card to advance their agenda are largely to blame.
Maybe one day we'll have a colorblind society, but be assured that the left and their media minions will do everything in their power to prevent it from happening.
So it would make sense that the Greek gods could be black or Asian or Polynesian.
So now Santa and Jesus were black, eh?
Dear CNN,
Saint Nicholas was a real person, not a cartoon.
He was provably caucasian, so why do you protest?
Next you’ll be offended to learn Christ was Jewish.....
Oh, that’s right.....He’s a bit too real for you to acknowledge.
Yes, there was a real St. Nicholas. But I do not believe he is still alive, lives at the North Pole, or flies around on a sled pulled by Reindeer.
The mythical Santa can be anything you want him to be. In New York, Macy’s had, at least 20 years ago, two lines for the kids waiting to see Santa— one was marked “Traditional Santa” and the other said “Urban Santa.”
Black people have been saying that Jesus is Black for some time now.
If skin color “doesn’t matter” then why ignore the MESSAGE that Jesus delivered and focus on skin color saying “this is key”?
I’d like to see all the Uncle Remus characters as Japanese.
How was it dumb? The traditional Santa has always been white.
Being from West Texas I've seen Black Santa, White Santa, and we even have had Pancho Clause around here since I was a kid and yet, I'm not traumatized or unstable as a result(although that's may be a matter of opinion).
Only Liberals could turn such a simple statement pointing out an obvious fact into a major race controversy.
Kelly's new show is a ratings monster, especially for being so new and I think the Mainstream Media was just looking for something to pound on her for to marginalize what they view as a threat.
It's a shame so many on the right are willing to jump on the Liberal dogpile.
That's retarded, sir. They were Carribean.
I like real chocolate not those phony Carob Beans.
Thomas Nast created the popular imagery of Santa Claus. He also created the Elephant and Donkey representations of the Republican and Democrat Parties.
Maybe now the GOP should be represented by a Donkey and the DNC by an Elephant. Just because it means nothing anyway.
After all, the Republican victories USED to be represented by “true blue” and Democrats by “commie red”. NO one ever used the “red state” “blue state” meme until the colors were swapped.
And the modern DNC party is the 68 revolutionary pinko crowd so they SHOULD be represented by the Marxist “color”.
I thought Santa was “white Hispanic” :)
LeBron James and Tiger Woods are white on Fox Sports .right?
Right. And Mother Superior in the Sound of Music is black. The film takes place in Austria in the 1940s . I suppose Moses was also black give us a break!
yeah, Dan Rather doomed us in that Red/blue thing in 88 I think .maybe 92 and it stuck. Dang it. It is what it is now ...
Maybe he should be white??? What fools..how about getting the blacks in this country going in the right direction..Never happen with OBAMA
should have elected Clarence Thomas president
This is getting deranged and scary.
I’ve said for year that for race relations to really take a leap forward, we would need a conservative black Prez .because a liberal black necessarily comes from the “greivance wing” of the Dem party, and the greivance wing cannot possibly heal anything and the same for the first woman prez .if it’s not a conservative, it will only increase tensions
