This nauseating ad must be airing hundreds of times per day as it seems like it's on a few times for every show or televised sports event being shown. I can't imagine the amount of money B & N must be spending on this ad campaign.
My question though is what segment and the size of that segment B & N thinks they are appealing to?
I buy online and don't go to bookstores, but have watched with interest as many FREEPers have posted here about the type of people employed by these bookstore chains and how awfully they've been treated as customers. I've always kind of wondered how true that all was, but let me tell you, this ad makes me believe every negative thing every FREEPER has ever said about a visit to a bookstore.
He's not gay, he's Kenneth Parcell (which is pretty much the only character McBrayer plays regardless of the role).
I have seen that ad and each time I say WTF and who is that?
Fail

Your local metrosexual, of course!
B&N is not known for their support of conservative authors.
Brought to you by the same brilliant ad men that told JC Penney that going after the turdburglar demographic would lead to financial success.
The only people that he mentions on his list are male. Just sayin.
I don’t watch that much. Other than classic Me-TV stuff, Top Gear and Doctor Who (expect arrows), some Military Channel and weekend long runs sometimes of TCM, the rest could pretty much go away I doubt I would care.
I noticed that too!!! Pointed it out to my husband. I also hate the JCPenney Christmas commercial with the annoying singers stationed behind a moving fence that seems to stalk the shoppers. And the lyrics.....”shopping for my thighs” or something to that effect. YUK
I've bought two Glen Beck books at B&N - "The Eye of Moloch" and "Miracles and Massacres"- in the past month and both were prominently displayed up front and center.
the OP stipulated that this was shown on sports programming, God only knows why
bump
I was thinking of getting a bell and a pot and dressing up as Santa for Halloween next year for the kids who treat or treat.... which none do in this neighborhood.
I like going to bookstores. Preferred Books A Million, but B&N is the only game in town now.
But I agree, that “gay” little fruit bat that flits around in their ad is very irritating.
However, the wieners on the Sonic ads beat all comers in the irritation department.
“Brought to you by the same brilliant ad men that told JC Penney that going after the turdburglar demographic would lead to financial success.”
That was my thought too.
“I have seen that ad and each time I say WTF and who is that?”
Yep, me too. Especially the first time: WTF??????????????
“I dont really get how anyone of a conservative bent can watch TV”
Well, I happen to like NFL Football and NCAA Div I football.
Lots of shows with conservative values: Duck Dynasty, Gold Rush, Bering Sea Gold, American Restoration, Pawn Stars, etc.
“I really dont care their ads like a multitude of other companies have only one result with me, I not only immediately change channels but the ads instill such a irritation in me that i avoid them and their products like the plague. How many Freepers are effected the same way?”
Actually, I almost never watch ads: I pre-record and skip them, but do get caught off guard and catch the beginning of one or two once in a while. A few are worthwhile just for chuckles like Deluth Trading, ESPN Sports Center ads, the Chevy “Santa” salesman, etc.
“Commercials are those things you fast forward past, arent they?”
Yep.
“Who is Jack McBrayer?”
Who is John Galt?
Yes there are still some cute ads out there, but they are few and far between. I also try to record and edit but you can’t always. I can remember, and I aint that dang old, when more ads were if not enjoyable at least cute. Now we get rap crap in the background of most, all men are idiots, children know more so they are advising us, etc. And maybe the worst ad you saw was for diaria or a feminine hygiene product, now there is no limit.
I especially disliked the stereotype of the “late-night bookworm”—all dark and creepy-like.
