Big government started with FDR and no one noticed. Why the sudden alarm?
All politicians are out to increase the size of government just like you would like to see it happen to your employer.
Only term limits would limit the size of governmental growth.
That would probably fix it, but there is another answer. That solution is coming in the form of a bankruptcy. At that point everything will be cut back to the minimum where it should be.
God knows what kind of chaos will ensue when that happens. I don't see how it can be avoided.
Term limits will do bumpkis when it’s the ‘behind-the-scenes’ gang doing all the writing/etc.

Restore the gold standard
Abolish all donations from all that cannot pull the lever on election day (no PACs, no corps, no NOTHING)
