My grandmother was explaining the “Great Depression” to my liberal niece at Easter. My niece thought she was going to get some kind of angry comment about the rich or the banks out of my grandmother. Instead she got a lesson in frugality and being happy with what you have.
She said that my great grandparents weren’t in debt so they didn’t lose the farm. They grew all they needed to eat. They went without a lot of things but those were days when there weren’t a lot of “things” to have. Granny said she had 1 doll and that was it. She said they didn’t really think about being poor because everybody was poor and it didn’t do any good to dwell on it.
Yes. LBJ destroyed the black family as well as set in motion the destruction of this country. We are now reaping what he and legions of other Liberals have sown.
Civil rights should have stopped with voting rights
Just like with homosexuals ...its like the camel nose in the tent
I was there.lived in a culture that was half black...safely I might add
We turned them into protected excused pets
That are contemptuous of us and bite back
No way is black culture as a group better off today period
No group is really but they have declined worst
The happiness or lack thereof of blacks prior to 1960 and the harm of the welfare state after many rights were enforced are not comparable.
And?
When I was living in California in the 80’s, I worked with a Black guy there who grew up in the South (Louisiana, I believe). He said because of the political correctness, he thought California was 100 times more racist than the South he grew up in.
I was raised in Mississippi, partly in the deepest darkest Delta, and have lived here all my life, though I have traveled elsewhere.
We can match stories all night, and that’s all we’re doing, and extrapolate from them. That’s all the DD guy did. He gave an opinion based upon his own experience, and unless they have “morphed” into his soul, no one can deny him his own experiences and what he saw for himself, unless they accuse him of flat-out lying.
Based upon my own life experience, accumulated knowledge, and personal conviction, I am more prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt than I am the MSM, which is now nothing but a propaganda arm of the left.
No, they are not, and that’s exactly what the MsM is doing-if anyone dares to say there might have been a few babies thrown out with the bath water from that time, they are immediately and without recourse, vilified.
Amen! Amen! Amen!
I think that's where both Barry Goldwater and Rand Paul stood in the Civil Rights Amendment. (In before the usual mob of anti-Southern FReepers proclaim that it was Republicans that helped pass it. Well, they were Yankee RINOs with the goal of putting the South in its place. But that's a digression for another thread).
Where the CTA went off the rails was coercing individuals and private business to kowtow to the leftist ideal of forced integration. As a Southerner by choice and one who spent most of my years in Dixie both visiting and later residing here, I can state that racism and seething hatred was far worse up north on both side. The South was gradually moving toward accommodation without the need for jack-booted feds to apply it by force. Being coerced at gunpoint to "love thy neighbor" just ain't love. And that's why the racial divide grew so much worse post-1964.
“Hes generalizing from the few blacks he knew.”
OK I can’t read your stupid comments anymore without commenting back.
The man simply recounted HIS observations of WHERE HE WAS at a given time. He made no generalizations. You seem to have issues, pal.
And from your about page I see you are a California Government retirement system leach.
I can see right through you and I don’t trust you one wit.
I sense a faint whiff of ozone.
It is not the choice to believe him or the media for me. It is a choice between what I saw and lived through and his comments.
BTW I took a bus from Dallas to Jacksonville in 1969. Stopped in jackson where I still saw separate facilities at the bus station. Water fountains etc. Outside Columbus GA I was the only passenger in the bus. the bus driver went into the little store to pick up a package. There were deputies and some non-uniform people mostly with shot guns. The driver told me that someone had thrown a rock at a patrol car the night before and that they were going to kill a nigger tonight to teach everyone in the colors section a lesson.
I have stries from the 50s also., but what’s the point with all those happy black folks around?
You are probably unaware of the majority black county which voted to keep our present flag in the Mississippi flag vote in the Nineties. There was also one majority white county which voted to change it. People don’t fit into neat little categories slots because of their race, culture, or other affiliations.
I worked 28 years in prisons wrestling 19 year old weight lifters. So bite me, PAL.
The Left is working hard to associate Blacks with sodomites.
not relevant to the issue being discussed about all those happy black folks in the 50s and before.
I voiced no opinion on the flag issue and won’t be.
Why should your anecdotes be anymore valid to me than his? I already said that, IMO, he’s merely stating, as conservatives have since Adam, that we threw some babies out with the dirty bathwater. That is a conservative stance, not a racial one.
Hmmm...
It’s relevant in that people can be happy in their personal lives and not concerned with political aspects to the same degree as others.
The conservative stance is to reveal the truth. I said early for people to read so that you cannot dismiss my experience as an anomaly.
This is turning into a pack attack.
So I will defer to all those people who lived amongst the happy blacks of the 1950s.
Best wishes.
