'Duck Dynasty' debate explodes from TV to dinner tables, water coolers
Fox News 411 ^ | December 20, 2013 | Todd Starnes

The most popular reality show in cable television history has sparked a heated national debate, laying bare a national rift over gay rights and free speech and prompting politicians, entertainers and ordinary folks to enter the cultural fray.

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, as well as former GOP presidential candidates Newt Gingrich and Sarah Palin, have all come to the defense of 'Duck Dynasty' star Phil Robertson, whose statements condemning homosexuality angered many and earned him an "indefinite suspension" from the A&E network. With families gathering for the holidays next week, it seems likely 'Duck Dynasty' will dominate many dinner table debates.

What won't be as clear is whether the hit show will go on. A statement from the Robertson family released late Thursday raised doubts about the Louisiana clan's willingness to continue after comments from patriarch Phil Robertson triggered an uproar.

“We have had a successful working relationship with A&E but, as a family, we cannot imagine the show going forward without our patriarch at the helm,” the Robertson family said in a prepared statement. “We are in discussions with A&E to see what that means for the future of Duck Dynasty.”

The family said it has “spent much time in prayer” since learning A&E had suspended Phil Robertson, the patriarch of the Louisiana family, over comments he made about homosexuality....

So even Todd thinks that Governor Sarah Palin ran for president?

I think the homosexuals and their allies are finding out this week that they're not nearly as well-liked as the rigged polls and recent court decisions would lead them to believe. Next week should be very interesting, no?

I don’t believe most gays care what Phil Robertson has to say. The people at fault are the groups and the shadow people behind the groups that push this propaganda. Most of these groups don’t win in any way unless it is through legal means. I believe most people including gays are tired of being force fed this propaganda.

Heh, and so it is... Homosexuals are not liked but are now viewed as disgusting because of GLAAD. That is the new reality, and it is finally brought out into the open by the Media that admires and pushes their agenda!

This is finally coming back to haunt those that keep pushing for national acceptance! Sorry, but that is what is really happening - not that pushed by the media!

I believe that this is an excellent opportunity for Conservative run states and Governors like Jindal to pass laws banning ‘bundling’ of the channels.

If we had ala-carte, A&E would never dared do what they did.

I think things would be even worse for them if this weren’t the holiday season.

There are a fair amount of people who are getting ready for Christmas and don’t have time to keep up on current events. Probably plenty more who would rather not let this discussion interrupt their good cheer.

A&E would be best off trying to fix this and have it become a non-issue before Christmas is over rather than risk more people having the time and attention to devote to it.

As if I didn’t already know this.......the past 3 days have shown me.....very clearly......the huge divide between Christian conservatives.......and MOST of the media........including Fox News

Many on Fox have been salivating and baring their teeth to take a bite out of Phil Robertson

It’s visceral!

I have never been more scared for our country........and yet so proud of millions of her citizens at the same time

Dear Lord have mercy.......Protect us from our enemies

I agree with him 100%. (37%)
I’m glad he was fired. (35%)
He belongs in a re-education camp. (13%)
A&E was foolish to fire him. (12%)
I don’t know. (3%)

It’s sort of like abortion.

The media elites have to go all out attacking anyone who actually starts discussing what the subject IS and what it DOES because when people really start thinking about it, it’s gross and nasty.

When righteous folk actually start talking about what abortion entails the left stands up and screams and starts calling names, because they can’t afford the actual discussion to reveal itself. It’s the tearing apart of your offspring’s body and you can’t get past that, once you start to think about it.

My niece is a child, and has been taught to be so pro-gay. But she has no idea what gay men really do to one another. You can’t confront a child with that. But Phil Robertson has actually, in a way, stood up and said, do you realize what gay men do to one another, that they have sexual relations with areas designated by nature for feces. It’s horrified the left. They try to ignore that. And it’s deadly to them. They MUST shut that conversation down.

Yep! I was not a bit impressed with Fox tonight. Goldberg and O’Reilly were pitiful. Goldberg saying Phil was an ignoramus just ticked me off. He’s no better than the rest of the media. And O’Reilly’s arrogance is just over the top these days...can’t stand the guy.

Do you really think that’s what he planned to do when he sat down for a magazine interview for their January 2014 issue? That’s like saying that George Zimmerman planned to help Mr. Obama roil up his base when he shot Trayvon or that Nelson Mandela died or Miley Cyrus twerked to help Mr. Obama divert attention from Obamacare.

Ah, yes it is visceral and hard to accept. The major problem I see here is that Christians are loath to complain.

That means that the liberals get their way.

Actually, Fox has been much more sympathetic toward the Dynasty folks but yes, you are right, even FOX tends to gravitate toward political correctness...a real shame.

Tried to say that to O’Reilly but could not find the appropriate email address. He is really bad at this religious thing...(okay a a few other items)

The default is that you can NOT count on the media (any) to support the Conservative or Religious views. Not sure just how to continue when free speech is suppressed by the media but surely there is a way.

“the shadow people behind the groups that push this propaganda.”

that’s the key to everything that happens in this country. who gains from having all groups, white, black, men, women, homosexual, etc, fighting with each other?

I know it’s hard to believe, but not everyone’s actions are driven by either fueling the Obamacare fight or diverting people’s attention from it.
