George Zimmerman earned a new title today — professional artist — when eBay bidding ended on his six-figure oil painting.

The winning bid: $100,099.99.

It wasn't immediately known who bought Zimmerman's original oil painting showing part of an American flag washed in blue with the words "God," "one nation," and "with liberty and justice for all" printed in the flag stripes.

Bidding ended at 12:55 p.m. today.

"Whoever wins within the Continental United States, will receive this painting delivered by me personally. Your friend," Zimmerman told his commenters on the eBay auction site.

“The winning bid: $100,099.99”
What amount will he end up with after taxes?

Here comes the tax man.

Ain't that the truth. The tax man will visit even if the sale doesn't go through.

Good for him!

Other than news of his paintings selling, I hope he stays out of the spotlight for the rest of his days.

“some conservative with a lot of money wants to help him out”

That’s what i figured too. Hopefully that’s the case. This painting business is actually a pretty interesting way to solicit such help.

Thanks for the link! I know the liberals cannot ever drop trying to crucify him.

Well, I agree. They’ll be trying to slander him a long time after he’s gone. If there IS a follow up on this, I want folks here to know about it up front.

I haven’t seen anybody explain that it’s like a rebus. (I haven’t read every article/thread on it, so maybe I missed it.)

One Nation (under) God with Liberty and Justice for all.

I hope he really does get the money.

The man is a fool to offer to deliver it in person.
Who knows who bought it and why.

$100,099.99 is a very strange winning bid for eBay due to the eBay bidding rules. For instance, the $100,000 bid could have been a "proxy bid", with the bidder specifying a limit over $100,000, allowing eBay to raise his bid without conferring with him. it would be logical for him to specify $100 more, an even number.

In this case, the winning bid would have to be $100,100.01. When I bid on eBay, I always put in a few cents OVER a logical bid increment in order to take this into account. A few cents UNDER a logical bid increment makes no sense to me.

This makes me think the bidder may be fake since he doesn't understand eBay bidding practices.

Zimmerman could have a new career here.

A popular NYC “artist” hired minimum wage art school graduates to create works of art, which the “artist” then signed, no secret, before selling to people he publicly derided as tasteless fools.

Zimmerman could easily do something similar, but a little more honest. He could hire art school graduates (which are a dime a dozen), to create works of art, which he, Zimmerman, would modify somewhat, sign and sell.

If he really wants to go for quality, he could ask the graduates to produce something more surreal and indeterminate, perhaps with a dark character, like the paintings used on Rod Serling’s Night Gallery.

The art market really thrives on scandal, but has a shortage of interesting scandals. Zimmerman could really make a splash in the market, and make millions. With very little work on his part.

A feedback rating of 3% or (3)? Either one is not good news.

3% means that only 3% of those who have transactions with him and provided feedback gave him positive feedback. 97% gave him negative feedback.

(3) means that there's no history from which to judge the buyer. He/she has only had three transactions where somebody posted feedback.

I hope Zimmerman isn’t stupid enough to actually deliver this to a stranger. It’s probably a trap. I’d hire some off duty cops sto escort me.

The bidding on this auction was very strange.

The underbidder’s bid was $99,999.99, so at that level, the bid increment must be $100.00, so that explains the winner’s bid.

A lot of bids were either cancelled or retracted. I’m assuming cancelled bids were removed by eBay, and retracted bids were removed by the bidder.

The winner had a much higher bid in the system, so his effective bid dropped down when the competing high bid of $110K by m***p was removed by eBay (and that bidder’s account was closed).

The winner’s bids weren’t cancelled by eBay, so that indicates that eBay considered his bids to be legitimate, unlike many of the others.

That doesn’t guarantee that GZ will collect, but it sure helps, and I hope he does.

The feedback number actually gives you the difference between the number of positives and the number of negatives.

In this case, there are 3 positives, and zero negatives.
