(CBS) A Cook County sheriffs officer was fatally shot during an armed robbery outside a VFW hall in Bellwood Friday night, authorities said.
Cuauhtemoc Estrada, 50, happened upon the robbery, attempted to intervene and was shot once in the chest, authorities said. Andre Harvey, Bellwood director of public safety, says, the suspects who shot and killed Deputy Estrada, were attempting to rob Estradas daughter as she was exiting a vehicle.
Harvey says Estrada was about a car length away from his shooter, when he was shot in the chest.

They boasted the other day that 6500 guns were taken off the street in Chicago, well, looks like one didn’t or it has been replaced. The beat goes on in Chicago.

Hmmm, Doesn’t IL have strict gun laws? Are they not the last state that doesn’t have a CC provision? Didn’t the shooter respect the “gun free” zone of IL? Oh my gosh! This may mean the the criminal broke the law! Who would have ever thought that might happen?

An off-duty Cook County sheriff’s investigator was fatally shot while breaking up an armed robbery outside a family holiday party Friday night in west suburban Bellwood, police said.
The sheriff’s officer attempted to intervene and was shot in the chest while reaching for his weapon...
