President Shimon Peres on Sunday evening phoned and thanked bus driver Michael Yoger and passenger David Papo, whose actions saved lives in the explosion on the 240 bus in Bat Yam earlier in the day.

Peres asked to hear the details of the event and thanked Yoger and Papo for their actions in discovering the device and clearing the passengers from the bus, saving lives in the process.

The explosion took place shortly after passengers noticed a suspicious object and reported it to the driver, who quickly removed all passengers from the bus.

I'd also like to thank my limo driver. If he hadn't shown up and given me a ride somewhere or other, I might have gotten on a bus and then singlehandedly disarmed a bomb or two. You never know what's going to happen, I tell you, and when it does, it's good to have brave people like me around. Thank me. Thank me. And you, too, mister bus driver man and that other guy standing next to me while they take my picture or something.

You’re kind of hard on President Peres, aren’t you?

I think Peres is ok making a statement of thanks for those citizens who saved lives.
But he has done lots of harm to Isr. with his “ghetto Jew” mentality. Isn’t it high time for him to enjoy a nice pleasant retirement? He’s sure “contributed” enough, for a very very long time, to Isr. governance. (And, just how old is he, anyway?)

Yes. He has to throw himself into the spot light. Thanking people for saving their own lives. What else were they supposed to do?

I wouldn’t characterize him as a “ghetto Jew”. Jews of the old ghettos lived by their prayers and their wits. As for the former, he says none. As for the latter, he has none. An analogy with the Judenrat would be more accurate, but I won’t make that analogy. The Judenrat were given an impossibly conflicted job, caring for their community and preserving themselves by selling their community out, and they gave the job to those who only cared about their selves, so they would do it as the Germans wanted. He is only concerned with aggrandizing himself, and fools himself into believing that he actually cares about humanity and his people. He’s out of touch with reality, and thanking a bus driver as if he had personally done Peres a favor by not getting incinerated is just the latest sign of it.

I will defer to your greater expertise in trying to find the exactly accurate taxonomy for Peres.
My effort at classifying him was meant to reflect his constant policies of “national suicide” (giving away more and more land...including areas that are, or were, plainly necessary for effective defense), and of course his disasterous sell-out at Oslo.

I like to call him a crazed, camera-hungry old coot.

perhaps he could be given a one-way paid ticket to Kfar Shaul?

He’d be reclaiming it for the descendants of the survivors of the Deir Yassin dustup, and the International Community would take him seriously. I’d say, let’s sacrifice in the name of peace. The Deir-Yassinites can have Kfar Shaul back as is, and accept Peres as an honorary member of their village.

respectfully, understood but disagree. Should Isr have to fight again, it needs to keep all land, not give any away, even an old mental hospital can be dangerous if given to enemies who want to murder you

Only half serious, no completely joking. Parenthetically, the air strip that taking Deir Yassin was meant to secure is now a long strip of shops and offices called Kanfei Nesharim (Eagle’s Wings), but very plainly used to be an air strip.
