An environmental activist who pled guilty this month to poaching elk during a November hunting trip will resign his position as the Idaho director of the Greater Yellowstone Coalition.
Marv Hoyt, a leading critic of mining activities on the health of sheep and cattle, killed three elk and left the carcasses of two behind to rot in the field.
Hoyt had only one tag for one elk, and initially denied to fish and game officers he had killed the other two cows and tried to hide the carcasses with tree branches.
Although the protection of elk is a central goal of the Greater Yellowstone Coalition (GYC), Hoyt will not be fired from his position.
...
Hoyt also confessed to illegally killing another elk in 2001.

Sounds like he probably violated either sex hunting rules, also.
Do you have a source for his "gut shooting" any of the elk? I did not see that in the article.
Possibly doesn’t give a damn about elk sheep or mining, just what can be extorted from the mining companies.
not hypocrisy!!!
This what liberals do! They create a problem and then band together to protect, fix, eliminate, etc the problem, ie global warming and salmon.
Kill a few elk. blame hunters, eliminate guns and hunting seasons.
Liars! Liars! Liars! Absolutely worthless people and should be treated as such at every turn.
They should ALL plead guilty for promoting the Global Warming/Climate Change fraud.
No. It was my invention based on one of many possible motives. I would not be surprised at all if he did what he did in order to go back a day later, film the scene, report the "crime" and profit from the resulting publicity.
What would happen to a regular rancher caught doing this?
Apparently, I was right. The snake this guy helped create turned around and bit him.
This guy could and should lose hunting privileges for a long, long time (if not permanently)...should have had his rifle confiscated...and should have had to pay a VERY healthy fine...more than $10K.
