Having to give up a down and adding 10 yards to the football field, I don't think would sit well with Americans.

Ah, but the wider field makes it a MUCH more interesting game with 3 downs. Imagine, the Oakland Raiders playing the Saskatchewan Roughriders at Taylor Field in a -30C (-22F) blizzard in January! Taylor Field would be filled to capacity with Saskaberrians, fueled with 'antifreeze' cheering on their 'riders. THAT is sports entertainment!
LOL!!! Actually more than 10 yards would have to be added to account for the deeper end zones. Plus, the Canadian field is wider as well.
