WESTFIELD, Ind. (WISH) - Westfield police say the double homicide that happened on Friday was a home invasion that occurred during the day.
Police say they did not find evidence of forced entry at first but have since determined it to be a robbery.
Police say both victims, mother Marylyn Erb, 52, and daughter Kelley Erb, 23, died from blunt force trauma. A relative arrived home, 15000 block of Oak Park Court, around 5 p.m. and found the two unresponsive.
A 2011 Maroon Buick Enclave was taken from the house and found a short distance away on East 161st Street.
Officials have identified a person of interest and released photos of that person.
"The police department has been working around the clock to find who is responsible for this and will continue to do so," says Mayor Andy Cook. "Residents should entrust that the police department and the city's primary goal is safe city and that hasn't changed. The evidence is being released to the public as quickly as it can be. I ask the city to be patient, but also diligent citizens and if they know anything to contact police."
Westfield Police say they are not looking at family members as suspects in the deaths.
Anyone with information is asked to call Westfield Criminal Investigations Division at 773-1300 or Crime Stoppers at 262-TIPS (8477).
The Erb family released the following statement through their church:
"Our family would like to thank everyone for the overwhelming encouragement and prayerful support we have received as we grieve this unimaginable loss."
A really stupid one who apparently showed up with the victims' bank cards where there was a security camera and great pictures. To be identified within hours, another black man's life wasted. As the uncle of one of the NJ carjackers said.
Bitter much? Not me.

My son and family live just a couple of miles from this. There have been repeated break-ins in that area.

It’s amazing how they always say they’re looking for a person of interest or suspects but they don’t give very good descriptions. How are we to know what they look like? At least tell us their names.

Sure makes for some sleepless nights!
In our suburban neighborhood there was a rash of them awhile ago. They knock on the door during the day to see if anyone is home. Often times nobody home (man and wife both work, kids at school, etc.).
They want an empty house. Every so often someone is on the phone, in the bathroom, listening to music and don’t hear or ignore the door (saleman, etc.). Then both the burglar and the owner get a surprise, with USUALLY the burglar running away. But not always. Although I must say, in the news reports, the ratio is probably two burglars getting shot to every one homeowner being injured. But ALWAYS answer your door. Even if to shout “Go Away - we don’t want anything.” (When are kids were younger and home along for an hour or two they were told to look out the front window at yell: “Dad! There’s some guy at the door!!” And then come back and say “Sorry, we don’t want anything.”
Sad for these two women. I imagine they will catch this idiot thug.

Based on the picture, in the interest of safety we might need a 400 lb. drop test on the rope.
However, I don't answer the door if:
1. I don't see a mail truck, UPS truck or Fed Ex truck. Even then, I usually motion for them to leave the package on the front step and mouth a "thank you". If they motion that they need a signature, they had better be wearing a uniform, with the truck, and then also must be expected.
2. I am not expecting anyone.
I have dogs, and signs that state that I have dogs. I also have bells on all of my downstairs doors (that lead outside).
This applies to men, women and children. I don't care who is at the door.
Some years ago I was talking with one of my lib sisters about breakins in her neighborhood in a Chicago suburb. She wailed that she wouldn't know what to do if somebody broke into her house. I asked her why she doesn't get a firearm and learn how to use it. She looked at me like I was an alien from outer space. The thought had never occurred to her. She mumbled something about a gun wasn't for her. I said then prepare to be a victim. And prepare for her child to be a victim as well. I got a very sour look from her. But she knew I was right.
Knowing the closure level of cases like this I will wager the perp is still walking free.

Here in NJ, four carjackers in a mall parking lot just murdered a young man in front of his wife, for their Range Rover. They were caught in about three days - the police really pulled their act together because of public outrage.
It took about six weeks to find the killers of a Coptic family (those murderers were stupid white thugs) because it took that long for the police to look at the ATM videos of the killers using the victims’ bank cards - could have solved it in less than a week.
Most killers are stupid, which makes it a lot easier to catch them. Somehow that makes me angrier - how can anybody be so stupid, so lacking in imagination or forethought, that they throw their own life away, as well as their victim’s for a brief satisfaction of lust or anger or greed.
I’ve got a lot of bitterness against yet another killing of white people- unoffending - women - a mother and daughter - by some black thug or thugs who makes crime his life’s work. It just about never happens with the races switched. But some decent black person is going to recognize this killer and turn him in pretty quickly, I do believe.
Yet another brutal crime. It will be interesting to see if this is yet another black suspect killing white people...And in this case two female whites.
