WASHINGTON -- The St. Tammany Parish school district is getting $67.8 million in disaster loans and accumulated interest for Hurricane Katrina forgiven by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Sen. Mary Landrieu's office announced Monday.

The announcement follows FEMA's earlier decision to cancel a $9.9 million loan for the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office and a $14.5 million loan to the St. Tammany Parish government.

The loan forgiveness is a response to a provision Landrieu, a Louisiana Democrat, added to a 2013 Homeland Security Appropriations that changed the criteria for loan forgiveness affecting some $211 million in Katrina-related loans.

"I would like to thank Senator Mary Landrieu and her staff for their tireless efforts on our behalf."

Mary knows the bribe game very well.

That sums up everything that is wrong with this country. People lauding a politician for her “tireless efforts” to shovel more taxpayer money into a specific district or state.

Any government loan to be forgiven should have to pass a vote in Congress.

It’s not the government’s money; it’s OUR money!

This is bribe money from Obama to get her to shut up about her anger at Obamacare. She is facing a tough election in November.

Mary is up for reelection in 2014 and since Romney and McCain both won Louisiana, she is very high on the GOP target list.

The only question for Louisiana voters is do you vote for the better candidate, congressman Bill Cassidy or do you vote for more corrupt dollars coming your way and keep Landrieu.

What the GOP needs to do is convince LA voters that the dems will lose the senate and if you want the gravy train to keep coming, you need to get on the GOP bandwagon.

Since people out of state probably don’t know, St. Tammany is a very conservative Republican parish. It’s president is Pat Brister, the former LA GOP head and good friend to Mary. This is probably Mary helping to pay back all the support she’s been given from the LA Republican machine.

Why do I have a feeling this is a school for odumbo’s people?

While I don't believe the kids shouldn't have a nice school and get a good education, why then not forgive ALL school loans where damage has been caused by natural disasters?
There is Oklahoma, Texas and numerous other places where the “free money” (ours, of course) could go.

FEMA is probably trying to make up for their stupidity back when Katrina happened and when Bush tried to get them to listen BEFORE the hurricane hit.

OK doesn’t this requires some sort of approval?

Are individual Senators allowed to forgive federal debt now?

FEMA just turned down a request for financial assistance in Kokomo, IN after an F2 took out several businesses and homes.

They just had the misfortune of having it hit the wrong end of town, since the only blacks affected were the 4 Obama Yutes that were caught looting a liquor store within an hour of the storm.
