Earlier this month, a homeless man who was interviewed by a news crew told them he used to play in Carlos Santana's band.
Thanks to the hard work of a diligent reporter, a Christmas wish was granted.
On Dec. 9, a reporter talked with a man rummaging through piles of trash in East Oakland.
"One time I found an old pair of jeans, and it had about $800 in it," he said.
When asked what he did with the money, he said, "I used it to buy equipment. I'm a landscaper and a composer."
The man said he was Marcus Malone. "Yeah, at one time I was with the Santana band, original Santana Blues Band," he said.

Nice story....and an example of what can happen when journalists do real work on allegations or tips they are given.
You're right - has a different 'feel' than stories handed to a reporter by an 'in' editor who got it from a dem operative who's social worker contact has an ax to grind...Old school works.
The only reason he did some real work was that it had nothing to do with the mac daddy administration and his bosses allowed him to proceed.
For those that are interested, Santana’s drummer (Did the famous solo in the movie “Woodstock”) is Michael Shrieve, and his band, Spellbound, plays every Monday night at the White Rabbit in Freemont. If you’ve never seen them, you need to.
Most “famous” rock musicians hit their peak and then live off their fame for the rest of their life, not improving their style. Michael is the exception. His drumming and musical interpretation just continued to improve for decades. And not only is he amazing, but he’s surrounded himself with some of the best musicians I’ve ever heard. It simply MUST be experienced live. And the club only holds around 80 peaople, but it is rarely full.
It just dawned on me that they might be on facebook. They are:

A private good-guy citizen (Santana) offering someone less fortunate a hand up. There must be some law against that by now.
While this is nice, in general Santana’s politics are Marxist. Often wears a Che t-shirt, etc.
Good point. Only the gov’t is allowed to do that. Can’t have people experiencing the joy of giving.

Today’s “journalists” exhibit an amazing lack of curiosity whenever liberal issues and politicians are involved. However, they leave no stone unturned when it comes to stories related to Republicans and/or all things conservative. Investigative reporting is reserved for those things exclusively.
I heard about this dude a couple years back and never made it over to see him.
Maybe after the 1st I’ll take a friend who has a couple guitars signed by Santana and enjoy the night.
thnx for the reminder.
Merry Christmas...
Hit the site, I noticed he’s only doing two more shows.
You got that right! Carlos prolly only came in when his name was mentioned.
