This is an error or Luke 3:23 is in error. They are both the linage from David
To Joseph? That is not the proper linage anyway. Jesus was the Son of God!! Not David. Joseph had zero blood relation to Jesus. But thanks for posting. Merry Christ birth . He was the Son of God.
But PLEASE do thank Joseph for saying “yes” to marrying Mary for caring and raising the Son of God.
God had made a promise to His servant David of a kingdom that would last forever, and a perpetual ruling line. To fulfill this covenant, Jesus had to be in the royal line. However, there was a problem with the royal line, because God had cursed the line with Jeconiah, in Jeremiah 22:30, and none of Jeconiah's descendants would prosper on the throne of David. If Jesus had been the real son of Joseph, He would have come under this curse- the curse that the descendants of Jeconiah would not sit on the throne of David. But for Jesus to inherit the rights to the throne of David, he had to be the legal son of Joseph. This problem was solved through the virgin birth of Jesus, and since Joseph married Mary, Jesus became the adopted son of Joseph and inherited the rights to the throne. At the same time, in Jesus Gods promise to David was fulfilled in that he is the actual seed of David through Mary.
Untrue. Isiah sets out that the Messiah must be of the line of David. Thus the painstaking lineage presented by Matthew, or else none would accept Jesus as Messiah.
Right, both Mary and Joseph were descended from David, different branches though.

Actually it's very important: you see as Jesus was adopted as Joseph's son (Joseph raised him as his own) if he [Jesus] were to have children they would use Joseph's lineage. What is further important is that Joseph's lineage, IIRC, goes to a descendant of David who was cursed with him and his descendants denied ever having the throne of David… Sorry, working from memory there.
It was extremely rare for the lineage of the mother to be recorded, and was usually done only for extremely important people (i.e. kings).
