Actually, his efforts in helping the allied forces win World War II makes him the closest thing on Earth to an angel, whatever he did with other men.

I said nothing that agreed with what Turning did or was. I was merely wondering if the outrage is the same for those who seem to turn a blind eye to the sexual looseness of people in general.

The monarch, who is merely a figurehead, will give a royal pardon on the advice of the govt. All they do is rubberstamp it.

I don’t think sinsofsolarempirefan gets it. To commit any illegal or shameful act sets one up for exploitation and use by the opposition and makes him a high security risk.

He can be set up to divulge secure information or commit acts of sabotage thereby placing fellow soldiers in harms way.

In war time this is serious stuff and it’s really a simple concept.

I’m really sick of the homo folks trying to make light of some very serious perverted unnatural acts.

From the Justice's minister's web page -

The Justice Secretary has the power to ask the Queen to grant a pardon under the Royal Prerogative of Mercy, for civilians convicted in England and Wales.

A pardon is only normally granted when the person is innocent of the offence and where a request has been made by someone with a vested interest such as a family member. Uniquely on this occasion a pardon has been issued without either requirement being met, reflecting the exceptional nature of Alan Turing’s achievements.

He admits they are not following the norm for a pardon.

I'm a Christian, so I don't approve of fornication.

But don't misunderstand me: I am not so deceived by current moral illogic as to believe that sodomy is morally equivalent to fornication.

Sodomy is an intrinsically evil act.

Fornication is abusing an act that is otherwise, in its proper context, intrinsically good.

And, no, it is not "conservative" to treat sodomy as if it were morally neutral.

It was the Poles who helped break ENIGMA.

Doing what you are supposed to do - such as using one's skills to defend one's country when it is subject to an imminent invasion - does not make you a saint.

Many other men, who did not possess his rarified skills, volunteered for extremely hazardous duty and died on the front sacrificing their lives.

Because he possessed his skills, he was given his own bungalow in the safest area of Britain and was given all the resources he needed to pursue his research. He had one of the most plum assignments of any adult male in Britain, and he did a really excellent job.

Absolutely. They broke the 3 wheel version. A 4th wheel version was developed and key Polish math guys were helping the French break that. When France fell they were able mostly get to Britain, and worked on the new 5 wheel version.

"Enigma D was intercepted by the Poles on a Friday in late December 1927 at the Polish railroad customs house in Warsaw. A heavy package had arrived there, addressed to the German Embassy. A German representative of the "radio" company that had shipped the package, repeatedly called customs officials, stating that the package had been shipped by mistake, must not go through customs inspection, and must be returned to Berlin immediately. His calls became increasingly frantic, until custom officials became suspicious and notified the Polish Cipher Bureau, which was then responsible for radio-related matters. Polish intelligence Stefan Mayer had his agents secretly move the package to a secure location. The package contained a cipher machine visually identical with commercial Enigma machines. The agents correctly guessed that the Germans had modified the wiring; they carefully noted the changes. The machine was reassembled and returned to the radio company in Berlin. When Major Gwido Langer took over the newly organized Cipher Bureau in 1929, he possessed the modified Enigma machine, but he did not reveal this to the newly recruited mathematics students, Marian Rejewski, Henryk Zygalski and Jerzy Róźycki. Langer correctly assumed that the Germans would make further modifications to the Enigma machine, and he provided Rejewski only with a commercial machine, wanting his cryptologists to understand the machine from a purely mathematical point of view.

The German Army and Air Force Enigmas were used with several rotors; initially three. On 15 December 1938, this changed to five, from which three were chosen for a given session. Rotors were marked with Roman numerals to distinguish them: I, II, III, IV and V, all with single notches located at different points on the alphabet ring. This variation was probably intended as a security measure, but ultimately allowed the Polish Clock Method and British Banburismus attacks.

Rejewski, Marian. "How Polish Mathematicians Deciphered the Enigma", Annals of the History of Computing 3, 1981. This article is regarded by Andrew Hodges, Alan Turing's biographer, as "the definitive account" (see Hodges' Alan Turing: The Enigma, Walker and Company, 2000 paperback edition, p. 548, footnote 4.5). extracts from Wikipedia.

I get your point: mocking is more rewarding than thinking.

Thinking might lead to self-examination, and self-examination might lead to self-control and personal accountability.

I did not treat sodomy as if it were neutral. All I did was ask about how outraged people are over the general sexual looseness of people. God, as I understand it, does not make a distinction…sin is sin

Why not? Jim Jones' gay lover Harvey Milk got one this year.

Actually, it isn’t between them and God. God already turned them over to perverse things after they continually rejected Him. What they do is now between them and the State because if the State turns away from God, all the people risk being separated from God.

It is entirely bad timing as courts are destroying traditional marriage state by state and Phil Robertson is under attack.

I’d say government forced castration is a little harsh for violating the terms of your security clearance. But that’s just me; I’m a small government guy, unlike some folks here.
