I knew the media would sell it like this. Truth is that unemployment benefits ran out for a lot if people.
Fitting call sign ya got there.
I understand the story. My comment was due to the story last week that stated many people’s benefits would soon be running out. You think they don’t have anything to do with this number ... got it. But, taking last week’s story into account ...along with the ever changing numbers that this administration puts out that never seem to line up, I say that this is all just a spin to make the employment situation seem better than it is. I have many friends that are still without jobs ... still doing other things while trying to get careers back up to speed. Some have changed professions altogether.
Sorry to press you on this, buddy. They don't. Fact. Period. Full stop.
In your opinion, what is the more dominant economic myth on FR—that unemployment compensation affects the calculation of the unemployment rate, or that food and energy are not included in the calculation of inflation?
Gasoline has jumped a dime, here.
It has been cold, so people are going to see higher utility bills. I know people prepaying their 2014 property taxes by the end of the year for the tax deduction in 2013. For those who can’t afford to do that or who don’t need the deductions, 1st half of property taxes here are due January 31.
Add those expenses into the mix and there might be volume for the January sales, but there will be little to no profit for retailers.
That’s a good question. Close call. Along with the idea that the Fed is privately owned.
