FAIRFIELD, Ohio - A southwest Ohio teacher who allegedly responded after a black high school freshman said he wanted to become president that the nation doesn't need another black president has been disciplined.
The Fairfield board of education this week suspended teacher Gil Voigt without pay. The Hamilton-Middletown Journal-News reported that board president Dan Murray said that the suspension is the first step in the termination process.
When a black student in the northern Cincinnati suburb earlier this month said he wanted to be president, the white teacher made an apparent reference to President Barack Obama, according to school officials, and allegedly said: "We don't need another black president."
Voigt, who has taught at Fairfield since 2000, reportedly told school officials he was misquoted. A telephone message left for him Friday wasn't immediately returned. He has 10 days after he is formally notified to appeal before the school board.

Obama has set blacks back by a half-century! There are many good and smart blacks in America, who are true patriots. However, with Obama presenting the image of a bumbling and incompetent President, unable to protect America’s interests around the world and unable to grow the economy - blacks will probably never see a black President, again, for over a century!
He says he was misquoted. I wouldn’t be surprised.
He get’s suspended without pay; but recently another teacher was suspended WITH pay after admitting having sex with a student—statutory rape.
We don’t need any more Muslim presidents, and next time we need to pick an American. One who doesn’t hide his past.

We should only elect white men as president, preferably bald ones. Not because they are better, but they are the only people who can be criticized.
I don’t think President Obama was ever unable to protect America’s interests in the world. I believe he was unwilling to stand up for America’s best interests, because he felt America was too strong a nation, and had achieved that strength by ill obtained means.
Just atating the obvious. 0 set back racial relations by at least 6 decades and caused and continues to wreak havok on the nation.
Yea, well insulting Obama is FAR worse than raping some kid.
The irony, of course, is that Obama has been such an abject failure that it will be tough for another black candidate to win for quite some time, as the press will remind everyone who the previous black president was.
Saying what a lot of people are thinking no doubt.
I like the “unable” version better, because it works a whole lot better with his supporters.
I mean, you can say, “You don’t think Obama was a traitor, do you ... intentionally trying to degrade America’s position and power and prestige in the world?”
The answer is, “Of course not!”
Then you can go down a pointed list of things that Obama has done in damaging the US and say, “Well ... then ... giving him the ‘benefit of the doubt’ - you would have to say he was the most incompetent President ever, completing lacking all understanding of his office!”
That is a racist remark. There should be some correction, and explanation why a correction... in the classroom.
People do tend to generalize. It is part of our survival instinct. If a bear bite you, you tend to not want any more bears in your life (even if the next bear is a very nice, loving, caring individual).
We have to use our intelligence to overcome this instinctive response wiring in our composition. A teacher should be held to have this intelligence.
A correction in the classroom is definitely in order.
