The sin of blasphemy against the Holy Spirit - is - salvation itself. The work of Salvation is from the Holy Spirit, in that “man is dead” (spiritually dead, with the body catching up in a few decades, later).

Being that everyone is unable on his or her own to accept Jesus as their personal Savior (because of mankind’s sin nature, resident in him from birth) - the Holy Spirit intervenes to allow the person’s choice to be made, and also the Holy Spirit speaks directly to each person’s spirit in giving testimony to that person that God “is”, that He had made everything that one sees (of creation) and that God has provided a way of salvation, if they seek it out.

For the person to BLAPSHEME the Holy Spirit, is to say that the Holy Spirit is a LIAR and what the Holy Spirit is testifying to that person’s spirit is NOT TRUE.

THAT will not be forgiven, because that is rejection of the Saving work of God, through His Son Jesus.

IN OTHER WORDS - that person has rejected Salvation, and the rejection of Salvation IS THE ONE THING THAT WILL NOT BE FORGIVEN ... and will result in being cast into the lake of fire and being tormented forever and ever.

You have a firm grasp of what the Holy Spirit is and does. I personally have felt the Holy Spirit move me and I have felt the hand of Angels keeping me from certain death. I know these things are true as well as I know the lines on my face. I was responding to your statement:

“I’m not saying that there is theoretically anyone who cannot be saved.”

I am saying that CHRIST HIMSELF stated that there is one sin... once committed... that will never be forgiven.

GOD bless you and yours and Happy New Year!

The American people don’t believe the Scriputres any more; they have “gay” cousins, brothers, in-law, uncles, nieces, etc. They like to boast of their “tolerance”.

Well, I happen to be an American and I believe the Scriptures are the Word of God. And ... I also know, personally, a number of Christians (most of those around me) who also believe the Scriptures are the Word of God.

It could be you’ll need to go out and search for some real Christian friends, along with going to a “Bible believing church”.

Also ...

Polls: Most believe Bible as God’s word
http://p.washingtontimes.com/news/2007/may/29/20070529-111815-7952r/

More than three-quarters of Americans believe the Bible is literally the word of God or inspired by the word of God, according to a trio of Gallup surveys, with 19 percent saying the Good Book is a compendium of myth and legend.

The three surveys found that an average 31 percent of the respondents said that “the Bible is absolutely accurate and should be taken literally word for word,” according to Frank Newport, editor in chief of the Gallup Poll.

Forty-seven percent said the Bible was “the inspired word of God,” and 19 percent said it was a book of ancient fables, history and “moral precepts” recorded by man.

The breakdown of beliefs has not changed much recently: The average number of people who take the Bible literally, in fact, has remained steady since 1991.

A literal-belief structure, Mr. Newport said, has influenced a number of public issues, including teaching evolution in public schools, same-sex relationships, the role of a husband and a wife in marriage, observance of a day of rest, the idea of men-only clergy and even “seemingly unrelated topics” such as immigration.

Phil and A & E created a $300 million dollar advertising campaign that didn’t cost them a single dime.

That has certainly been the effect. I wonder to what extent they planned it.
