It’s January 8th, 2014. Its 10:00 AM. You’ve arrived right on time for your appointment with Dr. Anderson. You sign the register.

Unexpectedly, Nurse Judy asks you to provide your Insurance card. “We always update our records in January” she says. Not a problem you are thinking as you reach for your purse to look for your wallet and your brand new Obamacard. You congratulate yourself for signing up early so you would actually have that proof of insurance for your early January appointment.

You find the card and hand it along with a smile to Nurse Judy who walks promptly to a nearby computer terminal and starts typing. Within just a few seconds she returns from the computer and you immediately notice a frown on her face.

“I’m so sorry Mrs. Walker, our office doesn’t accept your Bronze Plan insurance and so you will have to pay by cash or check if you want to see Dr. Anderson today.

“Will that be OK?”
