Russia faces a New Year security nightmare after the second devastating suicide bomb explosion within 24 hours, this time on a rush hour trolley bus in Volgograd.

The latest blast killed at least 14 with 28 wounded, some severely.

A day earlier, an explosion reported as being detonated by a female "black widow" suicide bomber saw 17 killed and dozens wounded in the city's main railway station.

The latest explosion was said by law enforcement officials to have been caused by a man detonating a bomb in a crowded trolley bus packed with early morning commuters.

At least 14 people were killed and 28 wounded in the bombing

'The explosives were detonated by a male suicide bomber, fragments of whose body have been found and sent for DNA testing to identify him,' said Vladimir Markin, spokesman for the Russian Investigative Committee, equivalent of the FBI.

'According to preliminary information, the explosive device was the equivalent of at least 4 kg of TNT, and like the explosive device used at the railway station, it was stuffed with metal filings.

It was not immediately clear why he is suspected. The blasts are causing panic in the city, and deep concern all over Russia as people prepare to celebrate the New Year.

'Since both explosive devices contained identical metal filings, this confirms the investigation's theory that two terrorist attacks are linked.'

Security officials today named a suspected perpetrator of the trolley bus explosion as Pavel Pechenkin, from the Volga River republic of Mariy El.....

Volgograd was Stalingrad during WW2; I would imagine these may be clansmen or clanswomen of the Boston Marathon bombers.

The Russians are serious people. After the Olympics they will deal with the Saudi motivators and financiers of these jihadists in a definitive manner. This politically correct nonsense that the Wahhabi operating openly and financed by the Saudis can’t be touched will come to an abrupt end.

I dont think they will wait until AFTER the Olympics. Unless things have changed you can expect and immediate and serious response.

I recall cold war stories where some moron group kidnapped a russian to coerce them the way they were doing in other countries, and Russia tossed some of their in-country friends right into a blast furnace (alive). Not a peep out of them after.

Bush II kisses the Saudi king. Obama bows to the Saudi king. That's how US presidents deal with the motivators and financiers of radical islam.

Somehow I think Vlad will take a different path. And so Vlad might just end up saving Western civilization.

It’s good that Obama isn’t sending anyone of importance to lead our Olympians.

Probably not related, but:

Russia has been a stalwart supporter of the terrorist-supporting Iran. And now Russia is facing their own terrorists. When you sleep with the dogs, don’t be surprised when you wake up with fleas!

I was in Moscow when the scum invaded the theater and took hostages. The Russian “authorities” publicly announced that they had been in contact with the families of the terrorists and that they were all ok, “for now”.

On an earlier thread a FReeper whose wife is from the city was on the phone with her family (still there) and reported that there was a third bombing. I’ll find the thread and post a link.

"It was not immediately clear why he is suspected..."

"He apparently joined a illegal armed band in spring 2012 after converting to Islam and changing his name to Ansar Ar-Rusi."

Helpful hints.

And now Russia is facing their own terrorists.

Russia has been facing their own and other Islamic terrorists long before we faced 'em at Tripoli.
