A Campus More Colorful Than Reality: Beware That College Brochure (Libs use minorities as props)

--SNIP-- Even without Photoshop, colleges try to shape the picture they present to prospective students, says Tim Pippert, a sociologist at Augsburg College in Minnesota.

"Diversity is something that's being marketed," Pippert says. "They're trying to sell a campus climate, they're trying to sell a future. Campuses are trying to say, 'If you come here, you'll have a good time, and you'll fit in.' "

Pippert and his researchers looked at more than 10,000 images from college brochures, comparing the racial breakdown of students in the pictures to the colleges' actual demographics. They found that, overall, the whiter the school, the more diversity depicted in the brochures, especially for certain group

“The makers they send feature an overwhelming preponderance of young ladies. As if boys are not really welcome.”

They are probably seeking those who can get a free ride from financial aid as well, like Section 8 housing; for some owners a regular check is worth the property turning into a dump. Same goes for schools.

The worst part of it is how unprepared so many of the featured minorities are for college; it is a feel-good scam, in which they end up with nothing to offer prospective employers.

“Most of them feature pictures of happy-looking students at work or play, and yes: on average, they tend to be dominated by images of black women, white women, and Hispanic-looking males.”

I see the same nonsense for Catholic high schools and colleges in my area; while my sons are raised in the faith, I will not instill in them any sense of “financial ownership” in terms of the Church. Let them get their money from the people in their brochures (and good luck with that).

The college brochures are rather hilarious. If you were to judge colleges by brochures there isn’t a single white male person attending college. They are so flagrant you have to think the media directors must be laughing to themselves.

Just about every brochure, magazine ad, TV commercial, billboard, movie, website, or any other piece of visual media commercially produced in this country has to have some kind Diversity conspicuously placed in it.

Free Press my white butt.

There are booklets here (and many places) that advertise apartment homes. I noticed that almost all these properties had pictures of vacated swimming pools (like I was only interested in swimming, not living there). So, one day I asked my apartment manager why there are never people in the photos and she said that if they showed only white people at the pool, the NAACP and other groups would come around alleging discrimination but if they showed minorities at the pool, the whites stopped applying there.

The “solution” was to show no people at all.

I bet you can’t find a college brochure that doesn’t have the word “diversity” in it.

Oh, boys are welcome. They just don't want to scare them off by showing a typical engineering class- 20-30 boys who couldn't care less about appearance/hygiene and MAYBE 1 girl who is unlikely to be attractive.

I recommend going to a non-engineering school with a good engineering program. Being in a 90% male environment for too long is not healthy and causes weird things.

I think you should have some fun with schools your son is not considering. Call and tell them that their advertising makes your son feel uncomfortable. If he were to attend, do they have programs for white male engineering students. If not, are they planning to rectify that situation? Do they have outreach programs for your son? Make them defend neglecting about a third of their students in their programs and recruiting focus.

If you need financial aid, FAFSA forms open tomorrow. The earlier you sign up for state schools, the better. Use estimated tax numbers and correct it later.

Also jokes are the PSAs for each participant during a football or basketball game. They are nearly all alike:

Numerous campus shots, showing faculty and students “at work”

“Diversity” up close and personal

Theme: “Together, we can CHANGE THE WORLD!”

Such BS . why dont they use the time to promote the best programs they have, or the location, or its academic prowess and ratings

Many of them are just outright pitiful and ineffective Since they mostly are the same lookalike spots, I doubt the target audience is affected.

But at least the DoGooders feel better

Or commercials. How often to you see black and white guys hanging out together? Or the overabundance of black only ones (see e.g. McDonalds) Or the Stupid White Guy with the stupid punchline while the “classy” minority gives him the look of skepticism or ridicule. ATT and its token roundtable of kiddies
