I was in a weird situation the last few months.

For reasons I won’t go into right now, I lost the health insurance I had for the last five years. I haven’t made any large claims. I do have a circulation condition, but I’m on maintenance medication and have been for twenty years.

The company I had, would not take me back on a personal basis. They gave me a couple of reasons, but they seemed lame to me. I personally think they were scared to take me because of the Obamacare ripples going on right now.

All of a sudden, ten days before the new year, the company agreed to carry me, but the coverage wouldn’t start until February 1st. I couldn’t wait, because my gap would have been larger than 60 days, and this would have impacted me negatively, not to mention another thirty days without health insurance.

It was suggested that I sign up under California Covered. That’s California’s portal for Obamacare. That’s not something I wanted to do, but I needed to be covered January 1st, so the gap without coverage would not be longer than 60-63 days.

So what I opted to do, was sign up with Kaiser (the company I had been with), but I refused the option to have my taxes affected by the transaction each year.

Essentially I have a Kaiser plan that the government isn’t going to help me pay for.

They’ll probably claim me as an Obamacare enrollee, but I’m not getting any governmental help to pay for my coverage, and that seems on the up and up to me.

Some will say that I really benefited from Obamacare, but the truth is, I think Kaiser would have covered me all along, if Obamacare hadn’t scared the surely goodness and mercy out of them. I think insurance companies are very leery to sign anyone on board until they see how things shake out.

This is a real mess.

I hope it all works out for you, DO. I do realize some will have no choice.

BTW today I'm writing out a check for my new policy which is $1000 per month in excess of what I had been paying. $12000 a year, gone just like that.

I do not have words to describe my dislike for Obama and the Democrats.

And the gutless republicans who refuse to stop them.

Something similar here. Our company is dropping group but is providing help to purchase individual policies. They are offering to help those who may qualify for subsidies to go thru zerocare but the rest of us will simply purchase a private policy.
BCBS is who we had and who we will be with. Except for the provisions for abortion coverage which I must pay for, its virtually the same as what we had. I don’t like it but neither do I like paying taxes for the salaries of any dumble on the public teat.
