The legendary and controversial Bob Grant has died.

Grant spent the majority of his radio career talking in New York City. Grant moved to New York in 1970 to host a talk show on WMCA-AM, where he spent seven years steadily building his audience.

Leaving WMCA in 1977, Grant worked his first stint at WOR, and later moved to WWDB in Philadelphia before returning to New York as the cornerstone of WABC’s new talk format in 1984. He remained at WABC until his much-publicized firing in 1996. Ten days later, Bob Grant was hired by WOR. …

You are the brother of Jimmy the “Communist Conspiracy” guy? He would give out many scoops and rumors before there was an Internet. I also remember that caller “David”, who was a conservative black that always criticized the race hustlers (like Sharpton and Jackson).

Bob was the one who made me see the light.

I remember he had come back to New York during the Bernard Getz case. I fell in love with him. He made me laugh, he made me cry. And who can forget “Vintage” Frank?

Soon to be Radio Hall-of-Famer.

My best episode was of a man who called in to thank Bob for his mom who had just died. The man was in tears. The man’s mother in her deathbed had asked her son to tune in to the Bob Grant show.

Thank you Bob and rest in peace my friend.

BoB would often say to some nasty callers:

“How would you like me to come over and punch your dummy nose down your dummy throat, ah? You’re a fake, a fraud and a phony.”

So sorry to hear. My favorite line of his has been my tagline for awhile. He was so right. RIP Bob.

Thank you to everyone who had nice things to say about my brother (Jimmy from Brooklyn), or who just knew of him from the Grant and other shows. I’ll pass it along to him next time I see him. He’ll be appreciative and flattered I’m sure. He, like I, sometimes feel like we’re talking to the wind. Lol. He was at it long before I, back in the day when nearly everyone who made such ‘claims’ was considered by many, if not most, a “commies under the bed” conspiracy theory nut. Amazing, though, isn’t it, how damn near all of it turned out to be true. And how now even the most prominent of talk show hosts regularly uses the once dreaded “C” word to describe what’s going on in the democrat party. Lol.

And for those who asked, I doubt if he knows any of the other callers to the show personally.

Thanks again, and have a great 2014!

- Sharpy Sharpton and Baby-Daddy Jackson can not rest

Bob Grant inspired El Rushbo and millions of Conservatives

Bob was always easy to talk to and he knew how to let a caller develop a point or issue on WOR or on WABC- something many talk show hosts cannot do…..

Howya doin’ at that big DINER in the sky Bob? I’ll see you after a while -

John and Frank still have a website up for their podcast show (Fridays at 10).

Not sure if they still broadcast, though. I’ve had this link on my favorites for years:

Here’s one other Grantism I thought of a few moments ago:

“Piscataway...It’s...thataway!”

RIP

RE: My brother, Jimmy from Brooklyn, was a longtime caller to his show.

I still hear your brother on the Michael Savage program once in a while, although not as often as in Bob Grant’s

Bob Grant will be forever remembered for his colorful quotes...

Some of his GRANTISMS:

“Get out of my phone you fake, phony fraud!”

“And Let’s be Heard...”

“Straight Ahead.” ( When he’s about to go on a commercial break)

“This is Bob Grant reminding you... Your influence counts... USE IT !” ( his famous sign off ).

“This is Bob Grant reminding you... Somebody’s got to say these things.. it might as well be me.” ( Another famous sign off ).

“I don’t mind being friends with gays, as long as they don’t go sweet on me...”

“Piscataway...It’s...thataway!” ( to callers from that area )

“Jesse Jerkson” (obviously)

“I hope you get better, I really do...” ( To callers whose opinions he find strange).

“Cacazote” ( general term for liberals and idiots ).

He would also be vicious against people he dislike.

On then mayor John Lindsay : “the tower of jelly”

On then Mayor Ed Koch : “the arrogant emperor,”

On Ted Kennedy : The SWIMMER

On then Mayor David Dinkins — The men’s attendant (He said Mr. Dinkins was “a nice man, I just felt he wasn’t up to the job.”)

On Bill Clinton — The great stain maker

On Mario Cuomo - The Sfaccim

Then of course, there are his great, regular callers:

Jimmy from Brooklyn, who still calls radio shows today. I recently heard him on Michael Savage (He’s the guy who sees commie conspiracy in every event ).

Then there’s vintage Frank of Queens and his monologues which Bob rarely interrupts.

And there’s John from Staten Island who is famous for showing liberal hypocrisy.

And there’s the black conservative caller — David from Newark.

I also miss the hilarious effeminate guy — Kiki, who considers Bob a father figure :)

You can also be a member of the Bob Grant Horny Birgade. If you were stuck in traffic and got on the air with him, you blew your horn and got a bumper sticker.

What made Grant so famous his occasionally being admonished or suspended for short periods by station management, typically with a bluster of controversial, but possibly welcome, publicity.

The main thing is this — HE DID HIS JOB FOR OVER 50 YEARS UNTIL HE SLOWLY FADED AWAY ( He was still occasionally short radio stints on Sundays until 2011 ).

“Mario azende me! Tuzeprovenos sfachim! And he is.”
If asked Bob would allow callers to make that very Mario Cuomo salutation on the air, something I myself had indulged in on several occasions.

You were a great man, entertainer, showman, political activist, my friend.

Sorry to hear of your passing.

Robert Gigante, RIP.

He was nice to a hard core libertarian back when they were being purged from polite “conservatism”:

Your brother has always been on point.

Tell him never quit; It’s the only true education many get.

Taught me a lot.

Tell him I have at least four loaded bookcases and bi-focals because of him.

I thank him for it.

I hope to see you in the city again soon...

Action is long overdue.

As for Bob, RIP my friend and help us from up high, if the Lord allows it.

Thanks, I will tell him when I talk to him again.

Yes, darn shame about old Bob Grant. He really was very gracious to give my brother so much air time. He will be remembered as pioneer and legend of talk radio for a long time to come.

Take care, FRiend

Jimmy from Brooklyn was my favorite caller. He knew more about Communists than J. Edgar Hoover.
