New York City's Mayor de Blasio has been sworn in, and his remarks at the ceremony proved that he is unabashed in his affection for progressivism. De Blasio vows to level the playing field, punish the rich, share the wealth, and further the progressive vision in the City That Never Sleeps.
Mr. de Blasio's words even made "bedeviled" Bill Clinton feel comfortable enough to acknowledge his usually deeply disguised radical left-leaning ideology. Speaking directly to Slick Willy, who attended with Hillary "Claw Her Way to the Top" Clinton, de Blasio said, "[O]ver 20 years ago, when a conservative philosophy seemed dominant, [Clinton] broke through -- and told us to still believe in a place called Hope."
As for presidential hopeful Hillary, de Blasio thanked her for informing America that "It Takes a Village" to raise a child. Things got so blatant, Department of Sanitation chaplain Reverend Fred Lucas, Jr. of the Brooklyn Community Church even went so far as to call the city that used to symbolize opportunity and success a "plantation."
De Blasio thanked Andrew "Fewer Guns, More Abortion" Cuomo and former mayors "Nanny State" Bloomberg and David "High Crime and Taxes" Dinkins, the latter of whom de Blasio credits for being the reason he met his wife, self-avowed former lesbian Chirlane McCray, the first openly gay person to run Dinkins'S City Hall.
Mayor de Blasio thanked Chirlane and his two children, son Dante, who resembles Clarence Williams III from the Mod Squad, and daughter Chiara, who recently admitted to struggling with substance abuse.

A real shame, as I had been looking forward to taking my wife to NYC this coming summer. One of the things we had specifically hoped to do was go for a ride in a horse-drawn carriage. Now, not only will we not be able to do that, we run the real risk of getting mugged in Central Park, which along with Times Square is likely to degenerate back to the way they were in the bad old 70s.

Politically speaking, it is in parts a Red town AND an useful idiot, freebee leeches town, like most large urban cities. Our new mayor is about as Red as they come. Maybe not as bad as Obama, but close enough to pose some serious threats to our way of life here. As if things weren’t bad enough already.
Why does the Dept. of Sanitation need a chaplain? Does every dept. in NYC have one? The new communist mayor should eliminate the positions immediately (separation of church and state)and save the city a lot of money. I assume that they get paid quite well for the position.
“Historian Ron Radosh describes de Blasio as: (a) “a far left radical whose ancestors are the New Left and the Communists”; and (b) “a bona fide red diaper baby” who, “like many of his generation ... kept his parents’ ... pro-Communist politics not far from his heart.” Both de Blasio’s parents were far leftists—most likely, members of the Communist Party USA or some of its numerous front groups. His mother, Maria de Blasio, worked in the early 1940s at the Office of War Information—a U.S. government agency staffed largely by pro-Soviet leftists who depicted the USSR in a positive light.
In 1983, while he was still at NYU, Bill de Blasio toured parts of the Communist Soviet Union. This was a period of significant Cold War tension between the United States and the USSR, as the Soviets were attempting to permanently solidify their nuclear superiority over the U.S. Notably, de Blasio at one time served as an organizer with the anti-nuclear, anti-American organization Physicians for Social Responsibility.
De Blasio took his first job in 1984 with the NYC Department of Juvenile Justice. Three years later, having recently earned a master’s degree at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs, he was hired to work as a political organizer by the Quixote Center (QC), a Maryland-based, Catholic social-justice organization with Marxist leanings.
In 1988 de Blasio, an ardent supporter of Nicaragua’s Marxist Sandinista government—which was backed by the Soviet Union, Cuban dictator Fidel Castro, and Yasser Arafat’s Palestine Liberation Organization—joined a number of his QC colleagues in a ten-day trip to Nicaragua to help distribute food and medicine to people who had been affected by the violent revolution that was raging there. (The Reagan administration, meanwhile, was giving financial and military aid to the Contras, who were seeking to overthrow the Sandinista regime.)
Upon returning home from Nicaragua, de Blasio began working for a New York-based nonprofit organization dedicated to improving health care in Central America. Continuing, moreover, to support the Sandinistas in whatever way he could, he joined the Nicaragua Solidarity Network of Greater New York, an organization that held meetings and fundraisers on their behalf. De Blasio also subscribed to the Sandinista party’s newspaper, Barricadda.
He continues to speak admiringly of the Sandinistas to this day, lauding the “humble” and “really inspirational” blend of “youthful energy and idealism” that they brought to the task of “trying to figure out what would [make their society] work better.” “I’m very proud to have been deeply involved in a movement that rightfully thought U.S. policy toward Central America was wrong-headed and counter-productive and not in line with our values,” de Blasio said in September 2013. “I’m proud to have been involved in the effort that was challenging that.”
In 1989 de Blasio served as a volunteer coordinator for the NYC mayoral campaign of Democrat David Dinkins. Following Dinkins’ victory, de Blasio became an aide in City Hall.
When asked in 1990 to describe his political views, de Blasio replied that he was an advocate of “democratic socialism.” In the mid-nineties, he served as executive director of the New York branch of the New Party, a pro-socialist, ACORN-affiliated entity to which Barack Obama likewise belonged.
In 1994 de Blasio managed New York Congressman Charles Rangel’s re-election campaign. When de Blasio married former lesbian activist Chirlane McCray that same year, the couple honeymooned in Fidel Castro’s Cuba, in violation of the U.S. ban on travel to that country.”

Why would you want to come here at all? Everything is too expensive, the people that drive are terrible at it, and the people in general are jerks. I’ve lived in Brooklyn for most of my life, I know these things.
My last trip to NYC was a couple of days after 9/11.
There won’t be another.
Because my wife, who is from India, has only ever seen NYC as it is presented in the Movies, and therefore thinks that’s how it’ll be in real life. It’s her idea to go, and to be fair, there are plenty of interesting things to see/do there: the Natural History Museum, the “safe” parts of Central Park, the ethnic quarters, the Statue of Liberty etc.
Absolutely true. I’ve lived in, first, Manhattan, then Queens, all of my life. You can quickly and easily see how dumb many if not most here are by simply watching them cross the street. Many don’t even bother to look. They cross busy Manhattan streets while texting. Most of the time it’s young women doing this, but guys do it too. Then again, liberal guys are similar in many ways to typically dopey NYC girls. And doing something as dumb as this when your life is on the line is a true test of a person’s intelligence, at least IMO.
Oh contraire, At the coronation some of Kaiser Wilhelm people were complaining that Obama didn’t go left enough and there would be trouble if the Kaiser doesn’t go hard left.
I’m embarrassed that he is an Italian. Obama pumped money into major Corporations in NY and now the Dago is going to tax the Bat snot out of all them.
Attach everything that happens in New York to the Clintons; hang it around Hillary’s neck.

NYC is a fantastic place.
It’s not surprising that your wife would be cosmopolitan enough to want to visit it, and it’s probably at its peak now—before a couple of years of near-communist rule start to ruin it again.
Since you live in Brooklyn, it would be interesting to hear you accounts of how hipsters react to the coming neo-Soviet rule of Comrade deBlasio.
I’m not an insider, but I’ve read that Hillary’s Boy getting rid of the horsies is no slam dunk.
Apparently he can’t do it by executive decree, and the carriage folks have some “horsepower” in Council.
I don’t associate with hipsters at all.
