Phil Robertson's son defends him on teen brides

Phil Robertson's opinions on gays, black people and young men marrying girls as young as 15 years old have dominated the media over the past few weeks.

The controversy surrounding the "Duck Dynasty" star began during an interview with GQ magazine late last year in which he compared gay people to terrorists and claimed black people were "happy" and "singing" under racist Jim Crow laws.

According to The Huffington Post, an unearthed 2009 sermon (video below) from a sportsmen's ministry event in Georgia features Robertson advocating young men marrying girls at 16 and 15 years old because the young ladies will become gold diggers by the time they reach 20.

"They got to where they're getting hard to find, mainly because these boys are waiting ‘til they get to be about 20 years old before they marry 'em,” preached Robertson. “Look, you wait ‘til they get to be 20 years old the only picking that’s going to take place is your pocket. You got to marry these girls when they are about 15 or 16. They’ll pick your ducks."

I knew one person who got married when she was 15, when I knew her, several years later, she was very happy. She was also very religious. And yes, she got married with her parents’ permission.

We need to remind the folks at the Huffington Post who Obama had hired to be his so-called "Safe School Czar".

From 2009...

"use a condom" Jennings

From the Washington Times...

EDITORIAL: At the president's pleasure
'Safe school czar' encouraged child sex with an older man
September 28, 2009

A teacher was told by a 15-year-old high school sophomore that he was having homosexual sex with an "older man." At the very least, statutory rape occurred. Fox News reported that the teacher violated a state law requiring that he report the abuse. That former teacher, Kevin Jennings, is President Obama's "safe school czar".

According to Mr. Jennings' own description in a new audiotape discovered by Fox News, the 15-year-old boy met the "older man" in a "bus station bathroom" and was taken to the older man's home that night. ..."

On the tape, Mr. Jennings recollected that he told the student to make sure "to use a condom" when he was with the older man. That he actively encouraged the relationship is reinforced by Mr. Jennings' own description in his 1994 book, "One Teacher in 10." In that account, the teacher boasts how he allayed the student's concerns about the relationship to such a degree that the 15-year-old "left my office with a smile on his face that I would see every time I saw him on the campus for the next two years, until he graduated." ..."

My grandmother married my grandfather when she was 16. They remained married.

About a decade ago, a young lady I know married her feller--with her parents' permission, and they were happy until he was killed in an auto accident. She was 16 when they married, widowed at 19. Had they waited, they would not have had the time together they did.

Now, perhaps these are exceptions, but girls seem to be developing physically at a younger age lately. Nature is not so patient as a lawbook. Pity so many lack the maturity to go with their maturity.

By young men he likely meant guys in their 17s, 18s or 19s marry these 15-16 year old girls. Completely different situation from Obama's former "Safe School Czar" Kevin Jennings advocating sex between young boys and grown men.

The LSM is messing with the wrong Man.
It is good to see someone with a backbone not cave to the low life scum, like Paula Dean did grappling all over the floor apologizing. I lost any respect I had for her not because she used the dreaded "N" word but because she apologized for something that happened a long time ago.

I personally don't think blacks can claim outrage, when they call each other that all the time. I spent a lot of time in Louisiana. The Cajuns call themselves coon asses. It is a word they use and it is not used as something derogatory.
Growing up the "N" word was used to describe sorry people. Yes low life whites were called that. It had nothing to do with the color of a persons skin.
Getting back to Cajuns, they have a saying that fits most of this whole Duck Dynasty nonsense. "HOOKY JUNK"
The Robertsons are NOT Cajuns, they are just LA Folk.
Cajuns were thrown out of Canada and settled in the swamps of LA Around New Orleans to baton Rouge.
They are good people. If they are your friend, you couldn't ask for a better friend. If they are you enemy, Look Out. You couldn't ask for a worst enemy. Kinda like me.

The media is throwing everything against the wall and trying to make something stick. Their thinking is something like this...If this doesn’t get people mad, perhaps this other thing will do the trick....

I really don’t think it was wise for Phil Robertson to give the kind of interview he did with a publication that would be naturally hostile to his world view. I suppose that the family will be more careful about its interaction with media from now on.

"The Robertsons are NOT Cajuns, they are just LA Folk.

Correct.

"Cajuns were thrown out of Canada and settled in the swamps of LA Around New Orleans to baton Rouge.

Not correct. If you had said Alexandria, you'd have had it right. And they didn't settle "just" in the swamps.

More correctly, they settled on available land away from the Mississippi River to the west (the plantation Creoles owned the land closest to the river). The land to the east was occupied by "old English" sorts (the "Florida Parishes).

There are two flavors of Cajuns...."prairie" Cajuns, who are small farmer types, and "swamp" Cajuns, who earn their livelihoods hunting and/or fishing.

This is PRECISELY the same "split" you have with rednecks (people of Scot/Irish ancestry). Some are small farmer sorts, the others hunt and fish.

The "hunting/fishing" sorts of both Cajun and redneck varieties are far more similar than different.

"They are good people. If they are your friend, you couldn't ask for a better friend. If they are you enemy, Look Out. You couldn't ask for a worst enemy. Kinda like me.

This is true for both Cajuns AND rednecks, whether "prairie" or "swamp".

What do "I" know about it?? Born and raised in Pointe Coupee Parish (which is quite a ways north of Baton Rouge). I went to school with both types of Cajuns (but no rednecks).

"Why did we toss the Cajuns out?"

Because Great Britain wanted Canada. A main driving force was that the new British rulership wanted to shut down the Catholic Church in Canada, and the 'Cajuns steadfastly refused to change their religious affiliation. Plus the British aristocracy wanted the land.

I am on his side on the gay issue, the black issue but not the pedophilia. Sorry but that just doesn't sit right with me. Just what we need a bunch of 40 year old men going after 15 year old girls. The astonishing thing is that FREEPERS support this……So dang scary. The thread that I was on was absolutely devastating how FREEPERS are for this.

The video sermon by Phil in 2009 was selectively quoted by Huffington Post and already proven to be wrong.

Drive by post much?:

Robertson advocating young men marrying girls at 16 and 15

mainly because these boys are waiting ‘til they get to be about 20 years old before they marry 'em,”

"Honestly, dad, as well as the rest of us, we really try early on in our kids' lives to teach them about the importance of finding the right person that you can grow spiritually with," stated Alan.

most of us got married pretty young, in our teenage years.

Not just that, he was promoting and encouraging ILLEGAL sex between an under-aged kid and a full grown adult. The young males Robertson refers to (late teens I imagine) could never actually marry 15-16 year-old girls. And I haven’t seen anywhere where he was suggesting they had illegal sexual contact like in the Obama ‘safe school czar’ case.
