B.S. I headed an "aspartame defense team" which looked at all of the detectable by-product of aspartame degradation. Among other things, we showed that aspartylphenylalanine (core of aspartame) is a natural product of protein metabolism in the human body, not something unnatural. The Searle toxicology/pathology dept. fed rats and mice incredible overdoses of aspartame and the major degradation products with no significant problems.

It is a simple dipeptide. Any protein you eat is made up of peptides. Your body needs these as a principal source of nitrogen. Your liver and kidneys are designed to deal with the metabolic by-products.

People who tell you that methanol and formaldehyde are by-products are correct but they fail to mention that the body handles the small amounts regularly.

People who tell you that methanol is poison are omitting that it is only toxic at high concentrations just like booze.

By the way, if you drink too much water in a short period of time it can destroy your cells and kill you DEAD!
