Because it is easier to believe the Lies than Truth.
People are lazy and glued to their material stuff and don’t want to chance giving it up. Many people are religionless Christians-—as Pastor Bonhoeffer called the so-called “Christians” in Germany in the 30s
...they “think” they will be “safe” and allow others to lose their liberty-—like the majority of Germans when they caved to Hitler—thinking if they just “do” what he says, they (at least) are safe.
Most people are not students of history and understand even less what philosophy is. They believe Marxists/Nazis/Christians/Muslims all “think” the same and are basically “good”.
