HONOLULU - President Barack Obama is going to give his wife the birthday present that many parents can only dream of - time off, alone, without the children.

The White House said on Saturday first lady Michelle Obama would stay in Hawaii, where the family has been on vacation for the last two weeks, rather than return home with her husband and their two girls.

"As part of her birthday gift from the president, the first lady will remain in Hawaii to spend time with friends ahead of her upcoming 50th birthday," a White House official said.

The president was leaving Honolulu late on Saturday after a vacation that was filled with several games of golf and dinners out. He and his children are scheduled to arrive in Washington on Sunday morning.

If one were to assume they had a major spat and she told him to get lost, this lame-o excuse for her staying behind would be spin to cover that up.

Kailua is a popular community on Oahu and boasts a beach that was rated as the best beach in the country by "Dr. Beach" in 1998. Obama, for his part, has stated that he will postpone his trip for "as long as it takes" Congress to extend payroll tax cuts and unemployment insurance, according to the Associated Press. The press always insists that the First Family pays for their share (housing, food etc). I understand that we pay for their protection and transportation but there is no way they would be able to afford these expensive vacations if they were paying what they are supposed to pay. I know they are millionaires but they literally vacation like billionaires. I also wonder about the mortgage and property taxes on their $2 million dollar Chicago home.

A good strategist, someone Republicans have no concept of, would play up any divorce or separation as another unfortunate replay of the state of affairs in the black community at large where the cheating, lieing, no good brother be dumping on a sister, again. It would have to be in his nature since his nurturing mother was so discerning in her choice of hus.....oh, wait.
