Point well taken. Just trying to make the point that productive capitalism creates the wealth that makes social justice possible. It also creates the wealth that made the gifts that made the Vatican glitter. South American political thought in my judgement has always been fundamentally flawed since their understanding of economics is limited. South American economic and political life is chronically unstable. Unfortunately the Pope comes from this mindset. A good Catholic may wish to accept his religious teachings, but his political and economic opinions are very open for criticism.

“Tax breaks are great and they are a small part of spurring job creation but it doesn’t have anything to do with the utter stupidity of FReepers suggesting that the poor should be deported and similar crap.

Self righteous outrage is a poor cover for cowardice.”

One thing no one in the whitehut or media will mention because it does not serve their purpose is according to Church teaching, the Pope is only infallible in matters of faith as the Holy Spirit presents God's will to him in such matters. On all secular matters, he is just another guy.

Its not the Pope’s to sell and frankly I’d rather have the greatest works of western civilization in a museum instead of some rich oil sheiks bedroom.

The rich aren’t job creators anymore than some other person who buys a product or service. The rich don’t pull jobs out of their back pocket out of the kindness of their hearts.

RE: It isn’t a sin to be rich

The LOVE OF money is the root of all evil ( 1 Timothy 6:10 )

(Note the Capitalization).

One can love money whether one has it or not.

Actually that raises a point:

I haven’t seen any polls posted recently.

A coincidence?

He is pretty much “poor”. Giving free stuff to the poor is not so good. It is like serving a steak to a life long Hindu vegan, it can kill them.

I have to respectfully disagree with you. Had you qualified that statement with something like, "government forcing people to give to those that government considers "poor", is not so good", I could readily agree.

I'm not trying to tell you that you should give to the truly poor, just saying that I am told to by a higher source than the government, that I should do it.

As the parable said, who has much or made much, in him much shall be trusted and given

O.K., we're in agreement after all.

I think most people have no problem with people getting rich from working within a true free enterprise system.

The problem is with Crony Corporatists that get rich either by using Insider connections to rig the system to their benefit or hitch them directly to the public treasury. I am thinking of people like Diane Feinstein, George Soros, or that creep that runs GE. They want to socialize losses and privatize profits.

What we, as people that believe in private property and free enterprise, need to do is make to distinction between free enterprise and crony corporatism and to admit that some rich "capitalists" really are bad people that need to be dealt with.

Money, having money, etc. is no problem. However, “The LOVE of money” is:

1 Timothy 6:10

For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.

Sounds like a lot of libs that I know.

Of course it isn’t a sin to be rich. Just ask John Kerry, Pelosi, Obama, Clinton, Soros...

It took me time to understand that the saying “the love of money is the root of all evil” this has nothing to do with being rich..if I said “the love of drink or food is the root of all evil” would I be talking about a man with a store that has these things? No..I would be talking about drunks and gluttons. .it the love of consuming just to consume ..the poor can do this and it prevents then from being rich..”money burns a hole in the pocket”
The creation of wealth is good the stewardship of the wealth you create is good..read the parable of the talents...it is the waste. .the love of pissing away money on nothing that is bad..money is seed..let it create

I was trying to refer to the idea that being poor helps look at other values. She gave out of her poverty. The rich cannot mind God, it is easier for a Camel to pass through a needle hole. By making money the issue, we essentialy bribe the poor to, say, think about a nice car instead of caring for a trusted and loyal neighbor. There is an element of betrayal.

This is why I disagree with the Pope on that. Some people choose to be poor, pious and without sexuality because they fear more the corruption thereof. It is like telling a recovering drunk who cannot find money to buy drinks to be given the very money of his own demise.

The poor do not need alms per say but God, ie. The production of life and wealth, not the byproducts. Like He said to the samaritan, I will give you water that you will neber thirst from because it will turn you into an ever flowing fountain of water
