There’s a reason the text version of Camille Paglia’s opening statement at the Munk Debate, “Resolved: Men Are Obsolete” garnered 10K likes on Facebook and received more than one thousand comments at Time.com: it hit a nerve.
It was a nerve that needed to be hit, and Paglia did it beautifully.
Not only was her choice of words fitting, she delivered them with the perfect amount of exasperation.
America must revisit its distorted view of gender equality, implored Paglia, and start being fair to the other half of the human race.
Men’s success in fields such as medicine, engineering and technology have done more to liberate women from the constraints of their former lives than a busload of feminists could ever hope to do.
It’s time to stop pretending men are oppressors and to start recognizing the extraordinary contributions men have made to society.
Paglia says, “History must be seen clearly and fairly: obstructive traditions arose not from men’s hatred or enslavement of women but from the natural division of labor that had developed over thousands of years during the agrarian period and that once immensely benefited and protected women, permitting them to remain at the hearth to care for helpless infants and children. Over the past century, it was laborsaving appliances, invented by men and spread by capitalism, that liberated women from daily drudgery.”

How come it takes a woman to state the obvious??? The author is a woman.
Men should be saying it too. Where are the female inventors and engineers that have anything to do with the refrigerator and washing machines in today’s home. A woman of 100 years ago would be overjoyed to be freed from drudgery by the labor saving machines men have invented and manufactured for the house. Few modern women can connect the dots on this which takes a tiny bit of common sense. It is pathetic.
Oh yeah...Well, Charles Goodyear invented the modern latex condom!!! So there!!!

Clean water systems, systems to separate sewage from drinking water, and piping drinking water to homes to improve household hygiene with regular bathing and clothes washing did the most to contribute to the population boom of the early 1900s forward than anything else.

Even if we women come up with the ideas for nifty inventions, it’s always our brothers who bring the ideas into physical reality.

Yes, but it was a man that invented the X-ray glasses.
Fred didn't say "invented by women", he said "invented by feminists". And, from being a long-time reader of his columns, I'm very sure he is well aware of women inventors and the remark was mostly tongue-in-cheek to annoy those who spend their lives writing feminist screeds.
As of 2012, women accounted for 18% of all patents issued, which is double what it was in 1990.

You’ll note in your list of female inventions that they haven’t invented anything since they invented feminism!
