Scott Walker: Unemployment benefits, minimum wage push because Obama 'desperately'...
Washington Examiner ^ | 1-5-14 | Joseph Lawler

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker dismissed the White House's push to extend emergency unemployment benefits and raise the minimum wage Sunday morning, criticizing Democrats' all-out push for legislation as an effort to distract from the recent problems with the new health care law.

"They want to desperately talk about anything other than Obamacare,” said Walker, a conservative Republican being mentioned as a potential 2016 presidential candidate, said on CNN's "State of the Union."

Walker was rebutting a call by White House economic adviser Gene Sperling, who on the same program called for a three-month extension of jobless benefits to the long-term unemployed.

Walker indicated that he was not necessarily opposed to extending the benefits, but said that unemployment insurance needed reform. He cited reforms in his state requiring the jobless to actively search for jobs five times a week, not just twice.

"If I was out of work I’d look for a job every day except for maybe today, I’d be in church praying for a job," Walker said.

The Wisconsin governor also suggested requiring employment training so that recipients are "ready to get in the game" when a job opens up, as Wisconsin did.

As for the minimum wage, Walker warned that "artificially raising the minimum wage" through the federal or state governments would not create high-paying jobs, and that it could raise youth unemployment, which he noted was already high.

When challenged to explain why an unemployed or minimum wage worker would vote Republican given his stance on the issues affecting them, Walker responded that "in the end what people want is freedom and opportunity. You don’t get that through the mighty hand of the government."

Walker is right. Now that the Duck Dynasty thing has blown over, Barry and his ‘RATS need to direct everyone’s focus somewhere other than towards their failed commie health care scheme.

See BS was spewing the party propaganda this morning with a story that started with Henry Ford and his per day wage rate. They “morphed” that into a story about how “most people” wanted to increase the minimum wage. These people were part of a non identified poll that opined that 65% agreed with raising the minimum wage.
Then they spewed how enlightened states like WA had already raised their minimum wage.
They closed with telling how Henry Ford only paid $5 per day to make his cars. They left out that idiot Obama and his democRAT party have wrecked the economy since 2007 when they took congress and senate and started the free money lending scam.

The Dems pander by offering free money (that is, money taken from producers), while Walker offers solutions.

Nothing short of global nuclear war is going to keep the continual stream of 0bamaCare failures out of the news. Let’s hope the Kenyan dog-eater doesn’t realize that.

And whom does the increase in the minimum wage hurt more than anybody? The person who is already ABOVE the current and even the proposed minimum, in that job security is now threatened, by making the bottom so much closer than it was. The pool of cash the employer has to distribute to the individuals on the payroll is not infinite, and the size has to be based on the overall efficiency of the business. The only way a higher minimum wage may be actually paid, is to TAKE the probable pay increases that may have gone to the more productive worker, already above the minimum, and use that potential increase to cover the added cost of paying the minimum wage to the least productive workers, who, in a rational business climate, would have been discharged. Therefore, either the new worker is NOT hired, at what would be the minimum wage, or the existing worker who is simply supposed to get the new minimum wage, is discharged, as being a net loss for the employer, unable to provide sufficient production to justify keeping the position on the organizational chart, so the position is abolished, a further shrinkage of the work force.

“Minimum wage” should be an unpaid internship, until the individual worker has developed the skills necessary to actually provide value added to the employer. Unions came into existence when the principle of learning the job before getting paid more than a pittance was abandoned in the name of “social justice”, a “living wage”, and class warfare became the normal state of things.

Henry Ford kept the unions out of his plants for years by paying his workers just a little more than the unions were demanding from GM, or Studebaker, or Nash-Kelvinator, or Hudson, or Dodge, or Packard, and by discharging immediately any agitators who were trying to organize a union on the premises.

Henry Ford was not paying a “minimum” wage, he was paying a wage based entirely on productivity, a sound business proposition on his part.

Heh. I'll bet they didn't waste any time explaining how the Federal Reserve has made a $5/day wage into something that won't buy a pound of hamburger.

To me, these are separate issues. Those on unemployment are largely there because of bummer’s various job killing policies and maybe should be extended.

But raising the minimum wage creates more job killing.

Every policy he bummer comes up with throws more people into permanent destitution.
