Good evening, yarddog...she sure was a tough little ship and fought, hard, to the very end.

And her captain and crew fought tough as well.

Good evening, Brother! I see thanks are due to you for tonight's thread as well - an excellent find!

Good evening, ML...((HUGS))...did you have a great time at the “Blessing of the Bikes”?

Did the weather cooperate?

I woke up this morning with a raging sinus headache and ended up sleeping most of the day.

Disappointing.

That one is lovely!

It looks very similar to the 1971 Honda CB350 on which I learned to ride.

On Cobblestone streets in Boston year round.

What a great legacy this ship had! Lots of heroes to salute who were part of her history!

Thanks, Galz, for letting us hear about a great warship!

1957 Velocette 350cc. In my youth, I saw a lot of Triumphs and Beezers, an occasional Norton or Royal Enfield, but cannot recall ever having seen a Velo.

The story of HMS Glowworm is is remarkable..and barely recalled this day. In many ways this saga of a destroyer charging a heavy cruiser/battleship presages the Battle off Samar (in Leyte Gulf); superbly told in "The Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors. It's must reading.

IMHO, likely the best retelling of the Battle of the Atlantic is a novel, Nicholas Monserrat's "The Cruel Sea." It's magnificent, and well worth trying to find. The movie ( of the same title) was a fairly faithful rendition.

The displacement reminded me of the CB350. It was a nice sized engine, big enough to take the two of us plus all our camping gear out to the Berkshires, but manageable enough to too around the streets of Boston.

I commuted to work for ten years on it, rain, shine or even snow.

I am not as “tough” as i used to be.

It's wonderful to see you this evening! Our temps have moderated a bit but we're about to plunge into single digits again tomorrow night!
