Imagine the turnout if it had been a job as a beer taster at a brewery!

HR department reject 50s and older out of hand, even though it's against the law they just say it's for any reason but age.

Youth-worshipping corporate scum. Why didn't they just cut his salary some?

My dad had the same problem finding work in his 40s and 50s.

If Maryland were a right to work state, that 50-year-old would probably still have his job, were he willing to leave the union.

Corporations and government, working hand-in-hand to impoverish everyone. (At least, that’s the way it seems, sometimes.)

Amazingly the workers in this plant (before it was closed down by the original owner) were making $26/hour. No wonder it closed up.

52K per year in western Maryland is a good income. If the production were efficient and the company viable it would continue. Unions destroy companies and the following generations' prospects for the shorter term benefit of one generation. I wish it were not so.

I said: “Taking care of elderly people is difficult”. Meaning, that hiring older workers is preferred when you’re dealing with caring for elderly residents. Because the younger ones don’t seem to have the characteristics for such work.

Who said anything about HIRING elderly people ..??

To be blunt, this would be a perfect time to point out that Americans are not lazy and unwilling to work (the most frequently used argument used to favor illegal immigrants).

Meanwhile, Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley (D) is pushing a $4.5 million effort to retrain workers in other industries, including “green jobs.” While 85 former workers at the plant have taken advantage of the program, just 49 have been able to secure permanent employment.

Well, let’s see, now, I stink at math, but that seems slightly less than $92K per retrained employee. A lying socialist dictator like OweMalley would call that a rousing success.

The best thing about maryland is that they still don’t have a stilletto wire fence surrounding it.

It was brought up in the context of hiring older than average people, so it seemed to morph to that conclusion. My bad! :-)

Yes; I just wonder what on earth the tipping point will be for this country.

As a minimum the illegals should stay in the shadows milking the cows and the Citizens should be making ice cream.
