Should the money be going to gas cards? I thought this was a fight for the cure. All money should be going for research or in my opinion the donations are being collected fraudulently. Gas cards, that is our concern?
BTW, doesn’t the government provide free transportation for medical appointments to a lot of these people already? I see an awful lot of “EMT Transportation” vans in my area and I live in a nice area.
I am a proponent of people self-sacrificially helping those in need, Not government helping people.
The women who receive the gas cards are in need of that sort of assistance - there are various qualifiers. They also receive free wigs, free wig stands, shampoo, etc. Items that other nonprofits, businesses and individuals donate.
Learn about the organization you’re giving money to - see what they put the donations toward. If you don’t like it, don’t donate to them. Donate elsewhere. There are plenty of nonprofits and foundations to choose from.
I will add, nothing impacts a cancer patient more that having someone VOLUNTEER to guide them, listen to them, direct them to resources, while THE CURE is being researched.
if “EMT Transport” is your area’s equivalent of DC’s “Metro Access,” the outfit that transports disabled to doctors’ appointments, it’s not ‘free.’ We had a permanently disabled client who was reliant on DC Metro to get to her appointments. IIRC, it was $5/ride or $10 round trip. Such a deal, unless, like her, your income was a <$300/mo. disability payment and you have 3 doctor appointments in a week. That’s an urban area. Giving gas cards probably makes more sense in less populated areas.
