Tea Party debacle implodes: Liz Cheney quits Senate race

Yes, nepotism, carpetbagging and cruelty to her sister hurt -- but Cheney’s troubles show a movement near its end.

OK, Liz Cheney was a carpetbagger from Virginia who had little to sell in Wyoming besides her father’s connections. Still, Vice President Dick Cheney’s daughter was not nearly as ludicrous a Senate candidate as Christine O’Donnell of Delaware, or Joe Miller of Alaska, or Sharron Angle of Nevada, or Joe Buck of Colorado, or … well, you get the point – all of whom won their 2010 Tea Party primaries against respectable conservative mainstream Republicans.

That was 2010. On Sunday the 2014 midterm season began with Liz Cheney calling off her doomed Wyoming Senate primary campaign against conservative Mike Enzi, citing unspecified “serious health issues” in her family. We sincerely hope those issues are resolved soon.

But the Tea Party’s health issues are also a problem. Despite Cheney’s high-profile campaign troubles, she had a lot of political assets that lesser 2010 challengers couldn’t rely on – and yet those candidates won anyway. Cheney is leaving the race trailing Enzi by more than 50 points. 2014 is going to be an unpredictable midterm election, but Cheney’s failure suggests it’s not going to be a cakewalk for come-from-nowhere Tea Party candidates — or opportunists like Cheney who pretend to be Tea Party devotees.

Sure, Cheney only moved to Wyoming in 2012, and she had that embarrassing screw-up with her fishing license. Probably the biggest blow to her candidacy was her high-profile, classless row with her sister Mary over gay marriage. Liz took to Fox News to say she didn’t support gay marriage, even though she’d attended Mary’s to wife Heather Poe – and Mary and Heather took to Facebook to chide Liz for either cruelty or hypocrisy, depending on what she really believed....

I don’t see how she got the “Tea Party” label over Enzi.

Rumors of the Tea Party’s demise are somewhat premature. The Tea Party is an idea and the only way you can kill an idea is if you replace it with something else. That has not happened in over 200 years. I don’t expect it will happen any time soon.

“The TEA Party steamed Bennet in Utah and got the great Mike Lee elected. Good for them!”

Yes, it was good and the reason that the Tea Party was successful in Utah was that Lee was an outstanding candidate and Utah is about as homogenous a state as there is. It other states, their poorly vetted candidates didn’t make it even though they had held public office because they were not “mainstream conservative” enough to appeal to an entire state. Akin was a congressman from a district that could go along with his decidedly non-mainstream “ideas.” But he didn’t play at all well even to conservatives in the rest of the state because of his “rather unorthodox” views of women.
Electing Senators is a whole lot bigger matter than individual congessmen as the Tea Party has found out, and we are suffering right now because of the lack of intelligent vetting.

Huh? Cheney is an establishment, globalist approved Republican if ever there was one. These people truly do not get it.

How is Liz Cheney “tea party”? She’s as pampered, entitled ruling class RINO as it gets.

It seemed to me that the TEA Party candidates in losing states were maliciously abandoned monetarily by the Repub elite.

The tea party does better at Senate races than the GOPe, who lost about 10 or 11 in 1012.

Well, we needed Missouri, Ohio, Nevada and Maryland, and we came up bupkiss!
My wife is from Las Vegas so we follow Nevada politics. Angle could have wion Dingy Harry’s seat going away if she could have just controlled her stupid mouth (his dumbassed son failed miserably in his run for Governor at the same time so don’t tell me about “the Reid Machine”).
Akin and Mourdoch came off as a couple of “Religious Neanderthals,” (with my apologies to real Christian folks) and O’Donnell as someone who couldn’t balance her checkbook. Just think how different things would have been with a GOP Senate even with Old Scrotum Chin and his buddies at the helm. At the very least, we would not now have the RATs rolling in all of FUBO’s Marxist judges!

That is two different election cycles, and you name Akins, who wasn’t tea party.

Palin and the tea party asked Akins to step down, and Palin didn’t endorse Angle for the primary in Nevada.

O’Donnell lost, but most agree her rino primary opponent would have also, again, that was back in 2010, when the tea party led the GOP to historic wins.

In 2012 the GOPe was a disaster of epic proportions, and lost the Senate, thank God that Palin gave us our only Senate seat pick-up, and Cruz down in Texas.

Without the tea party and people like Cruz and Rand Paul, and the tea party winners, things would look pretty dismal, Rove pent hundreds of millions in 2012, for nothing.

The tea party has strengthened the GOP since 2008.

Didn’t know that Akin wasn’t TP. I know that Silverman was the stronger candidate ( at least that’s what those boots on the ground were saying). But all that is water under the bridge. Here we are in 2014 and unless the GOPe screws things up simply to attempt to retain their ill-gotten “power,” we have a good hand. Doubly so, because we are not only going after the RATs, but also the RINOs, particularly in the Senate ( which is your basic nest of snakes with less than a half a dozen good guys). It is gong to be uphill all the way to get Scrotum Chin, bur a couple of others look clearly doable (Cochran is one). And it would be a coup of the first order to get Cornyn. I am just hoping that Obamacare really pisses everyone off and that the RATs are faced with having it bring a bunch of them down. We are Winning!
