Read: Matthew 6:5-15
On November 19, 1863, two well-known men gave speeches at the dedication of the Soldiers National Cemetery in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The featured speaker, Edward Everett, was a former congressman, governor, and president of Harvard University. Considered one of the greatest orators of his day, Mr. Everett delivered a formal address lasting 2 hours. He was followed by President Abraham Lincoln, whose speech lasted 2 minutes.
Today, Lincolns speech, the Gettysburg Address, is widely known and quoted, while Everetts words have almost been forgotten. It is not just Lincolns eloquent brevity that accounts for this. On that occasion, his words touched the wounded spirit of a nation fractured by civil war, offering hope for the days to come.
Words do not have to be many to be meaningful. What we call the Lords Prayer is among the shortest and most memorable of all the teachings of Jesus. It brings help and healing as it reminds us that God is our heavenly Father whose power is at work on earth, just as it is in heaven (Matt. 6:9-10). He provides food, forgiveness, and fortitude for each day (vv.11-13). And all honor and glory belong to Him (v.13). There is nothing in our past, present, and future that is not included in our Lords brief words that help and heal.

Good road trip: NRL, - first job after college. Spent 3 years there in the mid 60s in the Radio Navigation Branch - 5440 if my memory serves me. One of our studies took us on the USNS Mizar out of Bayonne, New Jersy to north of Bermuda. I got sea sick before we got past the Verrazano Narrows Bridge but was recovered by midweek when the ship lost power during a storm and went broadside to the waves. It was a converted ice breaker and had a round bottom. It was not good. Fortunately, they somehow regained power & we rode out the rest of the storm in a more satisfactory manner. I think all the non-crew had retreated to our bunks. My boss, who had been ok earlier got sea sick from this ride. I did not. I concluded that the earlier experience must have inoculated me against this ailment.
As I recall our per diem was pretty low since we had government furnished housing and government furnished food.
Road Trip Time!
Good morning, Everyone.
Good morning to our
military, our allies, and their families.
Thank you, Lauren, for preparing the Canteen for todays activities.
Well, looks like you all are coming to my neck of the country...
and to where I work.
Unfortunately, you all can't fit into my office,
and security is a b-otch, so
some of you might want to go on over to the Vietnam Memorials.
Yup, the frigid temps have arrived.
And as bad as it is here...
brrrrrr.....9 degrees at homestead....
it's not as bad as north here.
I feel ya!
After today, I suppose tomorrow
will feel like spring has sprung. LOL
Going to make my rounds,
catch up on pings while it's still quiet.
Please stay.
Grab a cup of joe or tasty tea.
The FR Canteen is ALWAYS
O P E N
Come on in and sit for a while.
There's always plenty of coffee, tea,
pancakes,
conversation,
silliness,
and plain old BS
