“In order to take part in the Geneva 2 conference, the Islamic Republic of Iran will not accept any proposal which does not respect its dignity,” Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Marzieh Afkham said.

Iran is better off not being part of the first round of talks, which will likely become the last round of talks between the Syrian government and the Islamist rebels.

Pres. Assad isn't going to relinquish his grip on the government and the Russians aren't going to let the western powers pull another Libya over there. The Syrian "rebels" are now fighting amongst themselves and with hardline Islamist scum being funded by our 'friends' the Saudis.

Without any western help, Syria's Assad is shaping up to be a more effective deterrent to Al Qaeda than a decade of US military action in the region.

Go figure.
