Why would anyone speed when they know what they are doing is illegal?

Getting caught for something that serious isnt that unique for the area. Getting caught for just speeding in that area isnt an uncommon occurrence either.

That section of I-70 is a speed trap in every sense of the word. It’s a whole lot of mostly straight freeway with plenty of places for the Highway Patrol to blend in. Drive the corridor between Dayton and Columbus enough and it’ll be easy to see how they were caught.

I’d think the simplest explanations are that they weren’t familiar with the area, or pushed their luck too far. They are not the first and wont be the last.
