This is an "I see what you did there" thing... if these wordsmiths use the word "partner" in place of "husband" enough, the brain-dead readers will soon begin to accept the word "partner" (a known euphamism for queers shacking up) in place of the word "husband".
Soon, homo "marriage" is completely normalized... because someone insinuated as much over and over and over again in the press, and ignorant people accepted it as truth.
