I used to chuckle at the US Army comment card that came with a new, in the box Kevlar helmet. Something to the effect of “please fill out the form and describe damage in the diagram provided and return if your helmet is penetrated by a projectile.

I know a Marine Staff Sergeant that during Al-Fajr took a round to the helmet and lived. He had already been wounded previously in the deployment and hadn't told his family about THAT one. I remember him musing, "Just how do you make, I got shot in the head, not sound bad?"
I also know another lucky SOB (Cpl) that had an RPG skip off the side of his helmet - he killed the RPG team as they were gawking that he stood back up. Comforting to know that their most probable last thought, on their way to hell, was "HTF did that happen?"
- side note they probably didn't pull the pin.
Kevlar helmets - They work.

My nephew served in the 82nd as well as the 101st. He also took a round to his kevlar helmet but they wouldn’t let him keep it. I do have a picture of him holding it on my homepage (scroll down a little). God bless and protect our heroes.
