Sports offers teachable insights into the leftist mindset, and even cursory observations verify that everything is political with these folks. This is unavoidable, I suppose, when your power is derived from electoral or public relation successes of the grievance industry.
Thus, we know for sure liberals could not simply enjoy Monday's BCS Title Game the way normal folks did. Having been dealt one setback after another in their quest to force the NFL's Washington Redskins to change their moniker, one of the nations leading liberal sports journalists (aren't they all?) has made it official: Florida State is now the cause du jour.

The school’s leadership is liberal. There is a large portion of students and alumni that are conservative. It’s just like the state’s demographic - except for Chicago it’s a pretty conservative state (although it is trending liberal).
In the last governor’s race the republican candidate lost CRook County and that was enough to give it to the Demoncrats.
The battle to get rid of the Chief was very prolonged. The spirit is still very alive.

but please FSU is more or less in South Georgia or East Alabama culturally .not Illinois at all ..
All of that is true, and I would suggest reading the article .it’s all in there, and it’s funny ..
I don’t doubt that South Georgia/East Alabama is conservative. I’m just pointing out that there’s a misperception that Illinois is all liberal. Chicago’s center of gravity heavily distorts the balance. Get rid of Chicago (I really do wish it were so) and Illinois is red.
There is no misperception that all Illinois is liberal, but there is the very true perception that Champagne is far more liberal than FSU .and that Illinois is more liberal than South Georgia, Fla Panhandle, etc.
The fan base of Illinois, which includes TONS of Chicago libs, is fairly lib overall I would imagine.
And no, Tallahassee is not technically in the Panhandle, but it is very much part of that cultural region.
You would think libs would be happy with the mascot as the Seminoles were responsible for the worse defeat of U.S. troops to Indian troops besides that of Custer. The Dade Massacre has been left out of many history books because 2 months later the defeat at the Alamo overshadowed it.
I went to FSU. Tallahassee is about 40 miles from Thomasville, Georgia and about 40 miles from Dothan, Alabama. When I was a student, there was a lot of Old South about the place.
So my theory that FSU is kind of South Georgia (pronounced jaw-juh) and kind of East Alabama is on the money then?
Sure is — at least it was true in my day.
