It’s always been sad and scary that someone like Governor Palin, a successful woman, wife and mother of a large family, would be so reviled by some in our society.

She’s the kind of person that society used to support years ago, but now she’s a target.

Just freaky.

She stands unashamedly for something and people hate that. Because they look at themselves and see that most of them do not stand for anything if it personally costs them to do it.

“Hey I got a family man...and a car and a house payment. I can’t afford to make waves...”

It is indeed insane. Palin evokes the ideal that America used to represent, moreso than anyone who’s been on the political scene in eons. Her self-made route, her frontier-style independence, her refusal to bow down and be corrupted the usual political forces (interest groups, the media, Party machinery, etc.), her strong faith, her devotion to family, and her basic indefatigability in light of all the constant forces out to destroy her.

The fact that this kind of amazingly admirable woman is greeted with such astonishing, red-hot hatred and venom in modern American society is a very telling indication to me of how deeply America has fallen into the abyss. Indeed, the reaction I’ve witnessed ever since her big appearance on the scene in 2008, has thoroughly re-arranged my opinion on America as a whole, including its long-term survival. And (obviously), not for the better.
