Chris Christie's officials lied about GWB scandal. Did the governor? (Pres ambitions dying...)
Newark Star Ledger ^ | 1/8/2014

Emails released today revealed two political bombshells: Gov. Chris Christie's office had advance knowledge of the traffic nightmare at the George Washington Bridge that crippled Fort Lee in September. And his top officials at the Port Authority did indeed close the lanes as a form of retribution against the town's mayor.

"Time for some traffic problems in Fort Lee," Christie's deputy chief of staff wrote to David Wildstein, a top Christie appointee at the Port Authority. Wildstein answered, "Got it."

Which confirms what critics have suspected all along: This was an outrageous misuse of public resources, a reckless endangerment of the public, and apparently a massive lie.

But by whom?

The official line from Christie's lieutenants at the Port Authority has been that this was all part of a secret "traffic study"; that they were simply curious to see what sort of mayhem would ensue if two of Fort Lee's three access lanes to the bridge were cut off, suddenly and unannounced...

Still, Christie bears responsibility either way. If it turns out he did know, he is obviously lying and unfit for office -- let alone a 2016 presidential run.

And even if he did not, his officials are liars. If Christie can't control them, how can we trust him as a potential future leader of our country?...

"Is it wrong that I'm smiling?" an unidentified text message to Wildstein reads, in response to news that buses of children are trapped in traffic on the first day of the school year.

"No," Wildstein wrote back.

Statement this afternoon from Christie:

Gov. Chris Christie has released a statement strongly rebuking Bridget Anne Kelly, one of his deputy chiefs of staffs, for her role in the controversial closure of lanes to the George Washington Bridge:

“What I've seen today for the first time is unacceptable. I am outraged and deeply saddened to learn that not only was I misled by a member of my staff, but this completely inappropriate and unsanctioned conduct was made without my knowledge. One thing is clear: this type of behavior is unacceptable and I will not tolerate it because the people of New Jersey deserve better. This behavior is not representative of me or my Administration in any way, and people will be held responsible for their actions.”

So, maybe he's telling the truth and fires those who lied to him. If they take it, and don't claim he knew all along, he'll be OK as governor. I'm guessing he didn't know, since it was an idiotic petty move and he's too calculating to make such a stupid mistake.

Either way, this put a nice dent in the his presidential plans.

‘Worst headline ever.....“GWB” referred to the George Washington bridge, and not George W Bush.’

“GWB” caused me to look twice. Anyone know if this newspaper leans liberal? I’ve become so cynical that I believe something like this is done purposefully. Attach “GWB” to the word ‘scandal’.

This paper doesn't "lean" liberal. It "falls over and starts burying itself in the ground" liberal. It is a 100% leftist rag.

That said, "GWB" means George Washington Bridge in Northern New Jersey, where this newspaper is based. And this story has been in the news around here for a few days. Nobody in NJ would ever read anything but George Washington Bridge in "GWB Scandal".

I also thought that the “GWB” in the headline referred to the former president.

Thanks for the info. I hadn’t heard about this until yesterday. As I mentioned, these days, my cynicism is running rampant. I’m close to wearing a tin foil hat. :-(

My thoughts as well. Has the MSM found someone even worse?

I doubt that. The MSM - an adjunct of the Democrat Party - has been pushing Christie as the frontrunner since the day after the 2012 election:

Whether he knew it or not, he’s surrounded himself by evil people who are happy to plot dangerous infrastructure sabotage for personal, vindictive reasons.

He’d probably drag the same vile staffers to his WH run if this hadn’t broke. So thanks, evil staffers, you saved the TEA party a whole bunch of trouble.

Watch live: Gov. Chris Christie holds news conference on GWB bridge scandal

He's handling the press pretty well. But winning the nomination for him just went from a struggle to near impossible.

I doubt he'll even run now. Just stay on as governor for a while.
