Loehmann’s, a specialty retailer that has had a presence in Georgia for years, is going out of business and closing its 39 locations, including two in metro Atlanta.
Loehmann’s blamed declining economic conditions in key markets, including New York, California, Florida and the Midwest, for a drop in business.

Try Hautelook or Rue La La. They are about the only ones I know of now that carries high end stuff. Rue La La specifically carries high end.
I used to get some really good buys off smartbargains when they were Loehmanns. Now they are really hit and miss since some watch company owns it.
Bottega Veneta is nice! I also have an LV that I got off eluxury.com. They are gone now too. Almost all my fave shopping sites are gone now. All my handbags are used everyday. . They are in no way just for looks but they all still look great too!

Another is a lustrous ivory short-sleeved shell to wear under a suit, in need of just a little shoulder slimming. Watch -- the minute I finish, styles will change radically!

I’m not sure. Was going to buy some chicken breasts this last week - $5.99 a pound. If I had false teeth, they would have fallen out. I can remember when I used to buy an entire chicken for $.29 a pound. One of the hazards of being around for a while. Never bought much food at Big Lots but used to load up at the Dollar Tree.
I quit having a want list and my absolutely needs list has gotten very, very short. Trying to find someone who can still repair shoes is my current project and I have cranked up the old sewing machine again for clothing repairs.
I bought a few Christmas wrappings at the Dollar Tree. Didn’t see any black Santa’s - Hispanics would be more appropriate in our area anyway. Did buy some really funny Christmas cards for $1.00 each though - they said Merry Christmas 2007. Message inside was to the effect that I had bought them on sale from that year and didn’t want to waste them. Friends really enjoyed them and thoroughly understood the message.
Dollar Tree is also a great place to buy stuff which our Republican Women’s group sends in gift boxes to our vets and servicemen - sun glasses, foot powder, puzzles, pens, scratch pads, etc.

We have some adopted black family members, and I'm always interested in my own reactions when I shop for the children and the packaging has only white kids pictured. It's a good mental exercise. One year I tinted the only wrapping paper I had left on Christmas Eve with a magic marker so that Santa Claus looked a little bit tan. I also tinted a Noah's Ark figurine. For one thing, neither Jesus nor Noah was likely to be a pale European white -- both probably olive-skinned.
That's when I owned mine, but I could afford it because I got it at Loehmann's. Wore it with a chiffon-over-silk, floor-length straight skirt -- also from Loehmann's -- to a gala at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

True, true and while Santa is based on St. Nicholas (also not Euro-White) he does have elements from Northern European paganism.
None of that bothers me at all.
Also, one of the 3 Kings is traditionally shown as a black guy, so that’s cool.

Ha ha! That’s great. My brother would have loved those. He got into a crazy thing for a while, he’d send you a card for your birthday, but all wacky. One year, he sent me a Bat Mitzvah card and it said “Best wishes & love from Uncle Hymie and Aunt Sadie” - something like that.
I wonder if I still have it?

re the real Saint Nick — I thought he was Greek; but someone else said he was from Asia Minor. Whatever. I told my family that Santa is the Spirit of Christmas and the real Santa is invisible, like the Holy Spirit, and all the guys who dress up like Santa are Santa’s helpers. That way, all the fake beards and cheesy flannel jackets and vinyl boots could pass muster, as well as the white, black and tan Santas in the various malls. It was a good stepping stone to talking about the real Holy Spirit!
I was then. Worked in the arts and was lost in the world of sin and striving. Now, not so much, either style or worldliness. Thank you, Lord!

I think the real St. Nicholas was from what is now Turkey. And yes, of course, those guys are Santa’s helpers, or what’s the harm to say they are just portraying santa?

How cool. Love funny cards. There is a store in Galveston that has some priceless ones. My dil and I go there just to read them and I always end up laughing so hard that tears run down my face. Neither my son nor grandson will go in that store with us. Says we embarrass them.
One I bought recently for my friend - who appreciates my weird sense of humor - has a bleached blond from the 70’s on the cover and inside says, “Which came first, the peroxide or the polyester”. It is sometimes hard to find someone who appreciates these though.

I hear you! It takes me a long time to pick out a good card. For a while I had a Hallmark store I could go to at lunch, but they closed.
After that I had to shop with hubby in tow. He’d sit in the car and observe me as I shopped. He did not approve.
Finally, I resumed sneaking off by myself to buy cards.
People just don’t understand!
