Sessions: 'For Every One Job Added, Nearly 5 People Left the Workforce'
Weekly Standard ^ | January 10, 2014 | By DANIEL HALPER

Alabama senator Jeff Sessions responds to the latest jobs report:

"Today’s jobs report underscores a deeper problem facing our economy: a large and growing block of people who are chronically jobless and completely outside the workforce. In December, the economy added only 74,000 jobs – not nearly enough to keep up with population growth –and 347,000 left the workforce. That means for every one job added, nearly 5 people left the workforce entirely. There are now nearly 92 million Americans outside the workforce, resulting in the lowest participation rate in 36 years. The President’s immigration plan will only make things dramatically worse – and no amount of ‘promise zones’ will be a sufficient remedy for the millions of displaced workers.

Funny thing happened to me today. I got a call from a company and they wanted to talk about my application, as if I’d only filled out the one. Now, I have kept records, but did not recognize the company. The lady said, “You did apply, right?” I said, “I’m sure I did. But I’ve applied to several hundred companies. Can you give me a hint on what the job is?” She said, “Proposal writer.” “Yep, that’s me.” (Cr*p, it’s a way lower paying job but at least it’s only 40 miles from here.)

Propose they pay you more money, and you’ll both be able to respect the other party a little more.

This Obama economy has really hit me hard. Just another reason I’ll never accept his lies. Not in this age nor the age to come.

Never.

Left the workforce means exhausted their unemployment benefits without finding a job.

You may still be looking, but they no longer want to count you.

why only 5 Promise Zones? What is the significance in 5 to an apostate muslim?

here in Michigan there are 10 communities that have been part of a state strategy - promise zones. emphasis is on education and bettering communities. so is Obama borrowing the promise zone concept from Michigan. see promisezone.org for more information

The five in Islam is the five pillars of Islam example prayer five times a day. one of the five pillars is the haji the required pilgrimage to Mecca

States and communities can vote in this stuff if they wish, but it would be unconstitutional for the federal government. Won’t stop Obama though. He sees the constitution as a flawed document. Prefers Karl Marx’s version.

Common error. If you are still looking, they count you (within the error bar.) Receiving unemployment benefits is not the way they count unemployment status.

Common error?

If you are no longer going to the unemployment office to check in weekly, how will they keep tabs on you? How will they know where you are? How will they know whether or not you've gotten a job?

Hell, how will they know you're not dead?

While I realize this has become a most intrusive society they aren't that good.

Yet.

Receiving unemployment services (by that you mean a check) no, but if you aren’t still filing weekly with the workforce commission, you have “dropped” out of the marketplace by their account.

Nothing that MADE IN THE USA won't fix

Made in the USA and EVerify. If manufacturing jobs came home and US citizens filled them, there would not be and would never have been the crisis we're in.

I can recall a time when there was only one promise zone — it ran from the Atlantic to the Pacific and from the Canadian border to the Mexican border.

I love Jeff Sessions. From what I’ve read, Session must be, together with Ted Cruz, the most conservative of the Republican bunch.

A Jeff Session/Ted Cruz OR a Ted Cruz/Jeff Session presidential team would be a dream come true. Ted is young and can always run for the presidency after Jeff’s two-terms expire.

Can I dream?

promise zones. emphasis is on education and bettering communities.

So it's just another useless government program? Or are tax cuts involved?

And why the heck would you spend your time filing with the workforce commission when there is nothing in it for you?

Once unemployment benefits run out people quit filing. So the statement that once your benefits run out you are dropped off the roles is true for the vast majority.
