Fire burns the old cloth market in Peshawar, 1 killed 3 injured

Peshawar, 11 January 2014, Electrical short circuit has burned the market in Peshawar, in the result of collapse of wall one person killed while three injured in the fire. The fire burns Saturday early morning in an old cloth market near Nothia Bazaar.

According to the local police officer Sardar Hussain we received call on 4.45 that fire on two shops burn the shops and fire also damaged other shops. After the call we inform the Rescue worker and we reached the spot. The officer informs that we try to vacate the houses near to the market because fire burn early morning and we want to save the people. He said people deep sleep that time and they didn’t give any attention to our call, during that time local’s start firing in the air to inform the people.

Citizens listen the aerial firing and they left the houses, after that rescue workers trying to stop the fire through the water, during rescue worker the shopkeeper reached to the spot and trying to collect different items. During rescue work the wall collapse in the market that injured 4 shopkeepers, which shifted to lady reading hospital Peshawar for treatment. Police aside the people who’s reached to the spot to see the rescue work, after 5 hours rescue workers stopped the fire.

One person who was critically injured in the market has lost life in hospital while three other injured were injured shifted to others ward for treatment. The doctors confirmed the condition of injured people is better and they will be discharged in a week. According to the local shopkeepers it’s the second time that fire burns the market of old cloths; they confirmed that more than 120 shop totally burn in fire. Police start investigation of the incidents, but in initial report they mention that fire burn because of electricity short cut in the market. A local shopkeeper who lost shop in fire said that we call Peshawar cantt fire brigade but they reached one hour late, if they reached on time they cover the fire and we may not face big loss. The Peshawar electric supply department and Sui Northern official reached also on time and they stop the electric and Gas supply to the area, because they worried that makes more loss in fire.

Nothia is an old market in Peshawar cantt, mostly class people especially women visit the market namely light house for shopping, the traders buy the old cloth, which imported from Europe to Pakistan. Local people used the cloths because of poverty; they buy that clothes, jacket, and sweater during winter. The burning of the Light house market makes hurdle for people whose use old cloth in the city , because fire destroyed the whole market of old cloth in Peshawar cantt.
