Don’t Destroy This Family [Germany persecutes homeschoolers, with assist from Obama]
National Review ^ | January 13, 2014 | Kevin D. Williamson

Posted on 01/13/2014 6:45:02 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

Ronald Reagan electrified the world when he demanded that the Berlin Wall be torn down. Barack Obama is helping to build a new one, even as the German government begins rounding up members of a despised religious minority.

The Romeike family was granted asylum in the United States because the German government was intent on wresting away the children and putting the parents in cages for the crime of homeschooling their children, which is verboten in Germany, a legacy of the country’s totalitarian past. The Obama administration, which in other notable areas of immigration law has enacted a policy of “discretion” regarding deportations, took the Romeike family to court to have its asylum protections revoked, and succeeded in doing so. The family has appealed to the Supreme Court, which has ordered the Obama administration to respond to the Romeikes’ petition, but the administration has so far refused to do so.

As the Romeikes’ story unfolds, another German family is being held in the country against their will, also for the crime of homeschooling their children — or intending to do so, at least. The Wunderlich family had their children kidnapped by the German government — the agents of which came crashing through their door with battering rams — as retaliation for their homeschooling.

Obama channels Adolf Hitler very well.

The similarities are truly striking.

At one point this country was a beacon for immigrants fleeing from tyranny.

Under Obama, we've turned into Germany 1935. (Hitler got his racist rules through faster than Barry hence why I haven't dated us at 1933 or 1939)

The proper step for congress at this point would be to pass a relief bill specific for this family.

This type of legislation used to be quite commonplace and was generally passed on a voice vote. This was before the days of determining which "groups" got favorable treatment by the political dynamics.

Back when I was in high school, there was a young man from Taiwan in a neighboring town who got one of these bills passed. He was a nice kid who had been orphaned while his parents were here and been adopted by friends. But it hadn't been a "legal" adoption (meaning the lawyers hadn't extracted enough money), so the government was seeking to deport him. No amount of pleading from his adoptive parents or even their offers to make payments on the fees needed to get it legalized would change the bureaucrat's minds.

It came to our attention through the student council who had contacted other student councils in the area. We all decided it would be a good civics project to write our senators and congressman for special legislation (which we learned about in civics class) to grant citizenship to the kid as well as waive the adoption fees.

Wanting to look like heros to several hundred high school students soon turning voting age, it got introduced by our state's delegation and passed in record time.

The same thing should be done now. Put BO and Harry Reid in the position of opposing amnesty for genuine political refugees at the same time they are pimping it for La Raza.

Government can’t have people keeping their children away from required brainwashing.

In the US I have met home schoolers of all political persuasions... I have never seen a study on the political persuasions of home schooling parents. Just curious

Obama persecutes homeschoolers too, and for the same reason.

Why would a government worshipping socialist homeschool?

I guess I could offer one explanation - to give them a good education so they can be in the ruling class.

But otherwise, schools are supporting and affirming their belief system to a T.

To make their kids into good little Wiccans. They do it around here.

No, I'm not kidding.

My wife stumbled upon a [vehemently] non-Christian homeschooling meeting at our library a couple of years ago.
She said it was really weird and she exited the area as quickly as she could extract herself.

There is actually a homeschooling program under our local public school. They are mostly big time wiccans. One of the teachers wears an inverted pentacle. There are animal masks on the walls. Harry Potter books are on prominent display. These people are serious.

Oh, but it's OK because it's (conveniently) not a religion.

We lived in Germany for 19.5 years. We knew of others, as well. We knew one family that paid huge fines to homeschool. By the time officials finally got to them, their children were nearly grown, so they were able to complete the homeschooling, but they did have to pay the fines. There were other families, as well. The interesting thing is that these families (a lot of them) use American homeschooling materials!.

The academic situation in Germany is better than here, but in Germany, your child is tested so that by 5th grade they are placed into one of 3 options for further education. Gymnasium, Hauptschule, or Realschule. Gymnasium is the college bound, and the other routes are not. Those who don’t go to Gymnasium must pay for their college education. This is sad, because so many are not ready for this testing at such an early age and it is not until later, with some maturity, that many finally come to life and get started learning. We knew so many that forced long and hard study years in those early years so the kids would pass the test. Some probably would have done better to have taken apprenticeships, something that still thrives in Germany. Even in Germany, college isn’t for everyone, but late-bloomers pay a price.

I’ll tell you why it’s “OK” with the “public” school...

because it is THE religion that God specifically directs us to avoid - worship of the creation.

Often it's because the child is heavily involved in a sport or an artistic endeavor and they want to complete their academics efficiently. We had a family in Girl Scouts whose daughter was a model and actress, and a girl in Science Olympiad who's a figure skater. In Envirothon, of course, we get hippie-environmentalist types.

I've found it's rare for those who aren't staunch conservatives to pay much attention to politics, except as it affects them individually. All types turn out when the state wants to make any changes in the homeschooling statute!

The baby in this picture was born in the US. The last time I saw this family live on Glenn Beck’s afternoon program in 2013 the mother was very pregnant and since then must have given birth unless she somehow lost the baby. Therefore two of their children are American citizens. How then can they be deported to Germany? Don’t they qualify as “anchor” babies? Why is this issue never brought up?

“The proper step for congress at this point would be to pass a relief bill specific for this family.”

At least, that’s what our hairless Pubes should do in the House. Then dump it on the Senate and let’s see public reaction.
