President Barack Obama should send David Petraeus, a retired four-star general who ran the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, back to Iraq to help deal with the growing unrest in the country, Sen. John McCain said Sunday on CNNs State of the Union.
The Arizona Republican also weighed in on a new book by former Defense Secretary Robert Gates, saying he would have waited a bit longer to release the book, which offers a blistering critique of the Obama administration.
On Iraq, McCain said the country is not a lost cause and argued the United States can still offer assistance to help quell the renewed violence thats rocked the country in the last year.

Can we send you back to Vietnam? Oh, and take John Kerry and Jane Fonda with you.
Petraeus kept quiet about Benghazi to protect the Obama regime. He could have spoken up. He knew it wasn't a video. He retired and his wife gets a cozy job in the Obama administration to make sure Petraeus keeps quiet.
McLame needs to retire. YOU JUST GOT CENSURED, A$$WIPE!
“Can we send you back to Vietnam? Oh, and take John Kerry and Jane Fonda with you.”
......lets send McCain over there to stay forever, which likely would not be long.......
And he can take Paula Broadwell with him.
No, he’s a Republican. He isn’t a Conservative.
Political party has become irrelevant. Now you are either a Conservative of a Liberal. We are turning into Labor and Likud.
Send McCain back to Vietnam.
why doesn’t the great military strategerist Juan McCain, who met with the ululating liver eaters in Syria, shook Qadaffi’s hand 4 years ago then backed Obama’s bombing campaign against Libya to benefit al Qaeda, and who graduated about last in his USNA class and then crashed or got shot down in multiple military aircraft ...
go lead the charge hisself
Juan- take Linsey with ya
I look at that pic of McCain’s al-Qaeda buds and wonder which one of those had a hand in beheading Christian children (remember the pics and video on LiveLeak?).
mccain crashed his plane rather than fight a war he didn’t like when he was in the military. Now there is never a war he doesn’t like or an American troop he doesn’t want dead or maimed...as long as it isn’t him.
People should start ignoring this senile old jerk. He flatulates through his mouth.
Lets send Juan back instead. Give him some body armor and an M-4 and let him take out his anger on the enemy for a change. Oh wait Al Queda is his friend at least in Syria. :-)
Good idea. Hillary can be his bodyguard.
the only thing we should be sending to Iraq and Afghanistan at this point is 2 A-bombs!
Send all the democrats and 90% of the Republicans in Congress.
Grandpa Munster needs some obamacare.
Send McShamey back to Viet Nam
posted before I got to your post my thoughts exactly
Former Bush adviser Karl Rove said on Fox News Sunday:
Some Gates insiders have told me this book was essentially ready before the 2012 election. Gates made a deliberate decision to delay his publication until well after the election so as not to have the incendiary charges intrude into the election, I think that is a statement about his character.
So McCain demonstrates the same lack of character as Gates.
Put McCain in the cockpit of an old A-4D Skyhawk, and send him to Iraq. Paint a picture on the plane of Obama saying he is sorry.
With or without his side-squeeze?
What he should do is to cancel all ROE’s that handcuff our Troops. That is why twice as many have died under 0 than under GWB.
Great response. I’m still laughing!
However, he has got to know that Obama does not want this war and it is going badly. At some point, understand the circumstance and give it up.
“..At some point, understand the circumstance and give it up...”
This country still has not learned to stay out of wars that they do not intend to win at whatever cost necessary and WIN FAST. Viet Nam was not enough. I am certainly ready to give up this kind of war which wastes blood and treasure and accomplishes little.
And now we are stuck with a worldwide ‘leadership’ image of weakness, lack of commitment to allies, and walking away from fights we should finish. Very bad.
